Write It Do It B/C

Post by Jim_R »

-The path of the Administrator is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.

-Nothing\'s gonna get deleted. We\'re gonna be like three little Fonzies here. And what\'s Fonzie like? Come on, what\'s Fonzie like?
-Cool?
-Correctamundo. And that\'s what we\'re gonna be. We\'re gonna be cool. Now, I\'m gonna count to three, and when I count three, you let go of your mouse, and back away from the keyboard. But when you do it, you do it cool. Ready? One... two... three.

There is quite a lot of that sort of information on the Write It Do It Wiki. The simplest advice I can give you is to practice a lot, with lots of different materials, because anything could show up at competition.

Practice a lot with pipe cleaners, and try to make a box full of common materials to use for practicing. It's amazing how handy a big box of stuff is.
I bet you had to read this twice

Our team this year is having everyone to a practice run of the event to see who is the best, is this a good idea?

Depends. As much as there is improvement over time from practicing, sometimes flukes happen or something just clicks with a practice run. But, this could also be a chance to see who has some idea of what the writing should be like, and identifying people who are good at following the instructions. I don't think it's a bad idea, I just think maybe it's making the process of picking people to do it a little bit too complicated?

In the parameters, it says that "Pieces that are connected correctly beyond the incorrect connection will be counted in the score.

No penalty will be assessed for parts that were not used."
What does this mean? what does "beyond the incorrect connection" mean?
Thanks!

Let's say you're working something that has connecting pieces. Parts A, B, C, and D are hubs. Parts 1, 2, and 3 are their connectors.

The correct format is like so:

(A)======1=======(B)===2===(C)==3==(D)

You accidentally use two of the same hub like so:

(A)======1=======(C)===2===(C)==3==(D)

You would be scored as correct up until the mistake (green). The mistake would be incorrect (red), but you put everything else in the right place, so that still counts too, even though you used the wrong hub. You also won't be penalized for not using hub (B).

Have you read and re-read the rules? Have you read the wiki? Both are important to read. Or are those two sources still confusing?
