Y'know, now that you sort of mention it, it would be cool to have an event about "current events" in science, but the more I think about it, the worse the idea becomes. I mean, the idea of it is great and all, but it would probably be run poorly (especially at Regionals) and become more of a trivia contest and everyone would hate it (sort of like Pentathlon: decent idea, bad execution, people start to hate it).

to be honest, i'm really butterfly about when i was born...i just missed out on fermi questions, and after taking a practice nationals test and getting almost 95% within 25% of the correct answer. i hope they bring that back at least as a trial, or an event close to that. if it doesnt, my random factness will never be used in scioly :O

You know, a current events trial/pilot/event wouldn't be that bad. It could get rather trivial, but it would keep everyone on their feet in science news, and itsorta could be like 5 star science. And instead of just facts, it could go further. Like say the questions had to do with the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland, the followup questions could be stuff like DP, or the new woodpecker discovery could have to do with Orni. Heck, even a recent murder could have questions relating to SCB/forensics.
