Indiana Science Olympiad

Postby E Edgar on Fri Sep 04, 2009 4:49 pm

This thread is for the discussion of Science Olympiad in Indiana. (I'm sure you didn't guess that)

Incidentally, does anyone know how many teams from Indiana will compete at nationals this year? I guess it's probably too early to tell for sure.

Umm, yeah, way too early. Nationals has to compare enrollment numbers after everyone's registered (and paid). Last state to turn in info (no recollection as to which one, at the moment) does so well after February. In the past, we knew well beforehand because there were several States below us (Indiana) that DID get to go, coupled with a lack of "massive enrollment growth" announcements-- not so any longer.

I suppose that many teams will be beginning to meet for the 2010 season.

I suspect that the Indiana state competition will be very competitive this year what with Valpo, Bloomington North, and Bloomington South all putting in strong performances last year. I would think that any of either Munster, Riley, or Carmel have a good shot at placing in the top 3 as well. (I apologize if I've left any team out (I'm doing this by memory))

Actually, I have heard rumor that they aren't going to allow any Indiana teams compete at Nationals this year because they decided that Indiana State competitions are too poorly run so they are just going to throw them out.

I'm sorry, but there is no way that that is true.

In any case, I'm sure most people would agree that the Indiana State competition is usually run very well.

Whats with the schedule for state not being out yet? It was supposed to be out on the 1st 3 days ago.
Road-1st at Regionals-22nd at State- 22nd at Nats
Pentathalon-1st at R-(didn't have for state or Nats)
Experimental-2nd at R-2nd at S-51st at Nats
Disease-5th at R-6th at S-9th at Nats
Overall-1st at R- 2nd at S-23rd at Nats

my good events tend to suck but my bad events rock

Yeah, this year things ought to be run better. In my experience IU usually runs a pretty good competition; maybe we won't be thrown out after all.

Still nothing...

To be fair, November is pretty early for competition schedules anyway.

The state schedule is up!

I find it intensely frustrating that half the events are in the first two time slots because that pretty much guarantees massive conflictions.

Just FYI;

If your team is looking to improve prior to the State Competition, we still have a few spots for both B and C left for our invitational at West Liberty-Salem, West Liberty, OH on March 6, 2010. The driving distance is around 2 1/2 hours from Ft Wayne and I thought some of you might want to attend.

We already have Solon, Centerville, Mentor, Magsig and many of the other top teams in Ohio coming as well as a few previous National qualifiers from other states (like Shadyside from PA and Friendship Christian from TN). We have a few openings because a couple teams dropped out (Sewickley) and it conflicts with another OH regional this year.

If you are interested, have your coach go to our website http://sites.google.com/site/wlsscience ... vitational and e-mail the Invitational Coordinator.

Thanks and good luck

Regionals should be interesting this year what with the rule change that allows schools to send more than one team to the same competition.

Who is going where is posted here:

Are still only allowing one team from a school to go to state, or did they change that rule too?
