We're staying in dorms because, as above, they're cheaper and closer (which also equates to cheaper because you don't have to pay for any type of transportation while you're there).

This will be the first time my team has stayed in the dorms, though; in the three-and-change previous years that I've competed, it's always been a hotel for both States and Nats. The lack of a pool and in-room TV is the biggest problem for my team (we like to swim and play video games, what can I say?); hotel breakfasts aren't usually anything to write home about, anyway. My team always sleeps four to a room/two to a bed, and it's never been a problem for girls or guys.

My roommate and I couldn't figure out how to turn off the dorm air conditioning. We froze to death that night.
I hated the dorms. I don't want to go to college any more.

That happened to pretty much all the girls on our team but me and my roommate. They were so mad when they found out the knob to turn the a.c. off was right behind one of the beds. I felt the dorms were so small and cramped, but it didn't matter much to us since we were only in them for like 5 hours each day (that's how much sleep we got!)
I personally feel that dorms would be much better then hotels for all the reasons mentioned above. Part of the whole experience of nationals is seeing all the other SciOly kids from around the country and getting to meet new people. The dorms give you that option, and they're not unbearable that you can't stay in them for just 3 days.
8th at Nationals......In our 1st year.........finally, our chance to shine

I guess that's true. Still, I couldn't live like that full-time.

Meh, it depends on how you've been raised, i come from a lower middle class family and im not too picky about dorms when i go on college visits, some parents make a HUGE deal out of it though.

I went to Washington U in St Louis this summer and one of the Moms was asking a question every 2 seconds and made an incredibly annoying gasping noise after the tour guide answered each question...

I just can't do it because it's cramped. Not the living conditions, it's just too small.
I'm upper-middle to upper class, so I'm used to much bigger accommodations.

Dorms with AC? Now that's luxury!

Dorming is seriously a great thing to do. Would definitely recommend it, even if you go to college local. There's nothing quite like it.

Yeah, they're small. That's part of it.

Well, I have to. The only places I want to go to college are not local, so I'd better get used to it now.
