Transporting Engineering Events

Postby peridot scarves on Mon Apr 19, 2010 8:20 pm

This is our first year going to Nats so we're a little worried about transporting our engineering devices. I'm pretty positive that we're going to fly right into Urbana-Champaign but I just wanted to know how you guys have been transporting your engineering events to nationals. Thanks!!!

we are taking a bus this year but if we ever flew we would have a truck drive our events to the place ahead of time

Any recommended couriers? I don't trust myself driving around MP, let alone an abused and overworked man who can't read the word "fragile."

We're probably flying.

Would you have to pay for the truck? I would think that the cost of just traveling in the first place would override any additional luxuries such as transporting events via truck. And even there it's not completely safe. But I wouldn't really know, since I've never actually gone to nats.

Where would you ship it to though? Just UIUC? Is there anyone in charge of keeping the engineering devices mailed before hand until the teams arrive?

Some past host institutions have provided an address where you could ship items for the tournament. They put them in storage until your team arrives to pick them up. If the service is available, details should be in the invitation packet or on the tournament website.

Poor people like us just get a substitute teacher to drive all our building events down in his jeep.

That is probably a safer option then UPS.

That's probably what we'd do. If we went. Nothing wrong with that.

Our team has our own trailer, so our coach and principle are driving up a day before.

I'm still worried about my trajectory machine though. Are there any quick-fix ways to keep my device safe without spending hours making a box? I don't want anythign to break or come loose (worst nightmare ever)

Spare parts. You've got to have them. Use tape where necessary, then check when you get there to make sure nothing's broken. If there is something broken, fix it, and be extra careful before competition.
