maybe the one drilled directly into the aquifer would be contaminated cause it has direct contact with the water; the other one doesnt so it isnt?

Ah the poor souls who have never done aquifers :( it makes this even a bit easier

Aquifers will collect all water from a system that percolate down. Since the well is into Sedimentary strata is it permeable. Therefore any pollutant introduced will slowly make its way through the rock into the aquifer unless there is and impermeable layer such as clay. an aquifer is really just a large source of ground water and most groundwater is connect in a given area unless an impermeable layer is present(this is a generalization don't start about its flaws)

The answer is "no"

One of things about aquifers is that in general, inorder to have a pure aquifers, it needs to be bounded on top by an impermeable layer. Therefore, in the generalization of aquifers, it is assumed that an impermeable layer is present. Yes, there are some special cases were aquifers are not bounded by an impermeable layer, but in my opinion, on tests it would be hard to distinguish that from a zone of saturation(aka water table) unless it is explicitly mentioned.

Once you know this, you look at the locations of the wells, and you can tell from there which ones will be contaminated.
(i'll edit this with a picture explaining it later tonight)

IMPORTANT PRINCIPLE: Groundwater flows downhill.

With this knowledge, you can determine the impacted wells. Well one, drilled into the strata, will be impacted by the contaminents. Well two, drilled into the aquifer will not, because an impermeable layer prevents contamination of the water system.

OHH.
i guess knowing about the impermeable layer would have significantly helped. i bet the picture will explain this.
