Thread for discussion about designs.

I've never done tower's before, but I'm going to start off with a basic two "part" tower.

Are there draft rules available anywhere for B and C division? Or will the bridges likely be pretty much the same as they were 3 years ago for B division?

as far as i know there is not a limit to height. however i would tend to keep it as close to the minimum as possible to save weight

Towers 2011

Height: No limit
Bottom of Loading Block: 50cm or greater above test base.
Tower base must span 20cm x 20cm (square?) hole in test base
Tower may not extend below top surface of test base
Portion of tower more than 30cm (Div B) or 15cm (Div C) must fit through 8cm dia. circle
Support chain must be within 2.5cm of center of opening in test base.
Must be a single structure - No removable pieces.
Must use only wood & glue
No limit on wood size
Any type of glue

Score = (Load Supported)^2 / Mass of Tower
EpicFailOlympian wrote:Why is weight bad?
Mass of tower is in the denominator of scoring equation. Heavier Tower=Lower Score!
Information expressed here is solely the opinion of the author. Any similarity to that of the management or any official instrument is purely coincidental! Doing Science Olympiad since 1987!

Do you know if the load support block is 2 x 2 cm again this year?

Correct! The opening is a square.

How is everyone doing with their designs?
