New York states rules

Post by JTMess »

Any New York teams who get this before tomorrow, we were wondering if you knew know about the rules and what you are going to do about them. The event supervisor says all batteries must be hooked up and ready to go in the 5 mins before running the device. Many peoples' bimetallic strips have to be heated prior to running the device and this almost certainly means that the power to the strip will run out before your device runs. We spoke with the judge and he says you cannot adjust your device in any way just before running it. It seems like the devices the judge calls to run first in each hour will have a much better chance at winning than the devices called later. We are already upset that mission setup was moved from Saturday to Friday night with little warning. Any feedback on these rules is helpful.

We didn't find out until we got there.. and ugh it's pretty problematic.. :? We're really going to have to rush to get it set up in 5 minutes, I just wish we had known earlier. We use a bimetallic coil that coils when ice water is poured on it, and if we're last..the ice could melt and it wouldn't work. Why was the 30 minute set up moved to today anyway?

We have absolutely no clue but I know something similar to this happened last year too. It will definitely be easier to keep ice from melting than a battery from dying, although it is really hot in the basement.

Mission impound/set-up has traditionally been on Friday night for the state competition. Of course, they don't mention that (even in the coaches materials), which always catches a few teams off guard. I had to set up Mission short a few team members last year, since we weren't aware.

Which supervisor did you talk to? The one I spoke with on Friday was more than happy to give us 25-30 seconds immediately prior to our run to set up our bimetallic strip.
