They don't have to lose their freshman, both Wellwood and Eagle Hill Middle Schools (which feed into FMHS) usually have their freshman come back for the team, even though they are at the high school.zyzzyva98 wrote:The same "phenomenon" sort of happened in Kansas the last few years. California Trail was amazingly good at testing events, Oregon Trail (which is sort of well known, I guess) mostly dominated building events. Then CT had to go and do really well at everything this year, so that was the end of that. Both schools are changing from having 7-8-9 formats to 6-7-8, so it will be interesting to see if CT continues their dominance at the state level, having lost their freshmen. But back to the topic at hand (because only Kansans care about that sort of stuff), I think that it's probably better to work more on study and lab events than building events. There's more of them, so you fare better overall. That's probably why the schools that win do better in those events.lllazar wrote:Centerville only had 5 double digit rankings. Wow. And yes, the awards ceremony was terrible...i really wish these speakers actually learned how to rattle off a list of winners...and Write It to do it? What the heck?
One thing i was thinking about was why do build its like trajectory, mission, it's about time, etc experience the following phenomenon?:
Schools like Centerville dont do so well, but other schools that aren't so well known and do as well as a team finish first. Not to discriminate...but what the heck?
Also, good job Leawood on getting third in Trajectory.

Well building events tend to be more unpredictable. An accident here or there or a lucky thing here or there can really shake things up. Non-building events are less susceptible to that kind of stuff I guess.lllazar wrote:One thing i was thinking about was why do build its like trajectory, mission, it's about time, etc experience the following phenomenon?:

True, but I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen. I'm eager to move up to our high school team, though I could go back to the middle school team.RandomPerson52 wrote: They don't have to lose their freshman, both Wellwood and Eagle Hill Middle Schools (which feed into FMHS) usually have their freshman come back for the team, even though they are at the high school.

Re: 2010 National Tournament: University of Illinois
I just got back from nationals. I placed in Birds and Ecology (see sig for details). Our team got third.
zyzzyva98, I'm experiencing something similar. My school is 7-8-9, and I was in ninth grade. I could have used my sumo-bot for the C team, I guess. (they got second anyway). Now I'm going to the high school, and changing my division to C, and will be for three years.
Anyway, my ears haven't yet popped and I have a massive migraine, and have a lot of homework, so my night is going to suck.
But I'm still elated by being national ecology champion. :D

I have no idea what that means, but about the keynote speaker, he was pretty good. I fell asleep though...... I was really tired.smartkid222 wrote:oh i think i see.wexs883198215 wrote:This happened because they forgot Picture This and wrote Trial-Helicopter twice. The overall results are still correct, just that the events listed after P are a little screwed up. This mistake made results for Trajectory turn into results for WIDI and WIDI turn into Helicopter...etc.
how come on the div B sheet some teams got (-) and some got 61 (No Show)?
He was funny for what I saw.
