Bronze for Bridge, and Bronze for Picture This. Yay.

Kean, congrats on PicThis. I talked to your coach at the hotel (we were staying at the same place) and he said you got twenty - awesome! The competition at the top for picture this was crazy this year...

Thanks nejanimb! Your 3rd place is amazing. How many words did you get? Do you remember the harder 3 words including coprolite? There were 22 easier words and 3 harder ones that we absolutely didn't know and passed on the spot.

Thanks - we got 21 words. 1st got 24 and 2nd got 23. I dunno which ones you thought were hard... "Carrying Capacity" was a hard one (but we got it), and Coprolite we also skipped. The problem is that some of the ones you thought were hard we might've thought were easy just since we'd done it before (and vice versa!).

I won two medals, which are only the second and third ones that my school has gotten at Nationals in the past ten years (eight trips to Nationals), so I was pretty pleased even though I know that I could have done better. I expected a medal in Cell Biology because I know the material very well and my partner knows it absolutely stone-cold, and indeed, we ended up in fourth, although we feel that we could have won or at least placed on the podium had the test been hard enough to be valid as a national-level test. What surprised me was a fifth place in Environmental Chemistry; we hadn't prepared in any substantive way for the event because we felt that there was no material to study and the test would end up being common sense aside from some information that I put on the sheet of notes that you're allowed to bring in. Fortunately for us, the test didn't contain anything that you actually had to have learned through practices.

It's hard to accept that for me, there isn't a next year.

I wound up with a 3rd in Crimebusters, which is a nice full-circle since I got 28th in it in 6th grade at States, and a 1st in Can't Judge, even though we thought we did horrible. It's funny because we won States and Nationals in it (somehow), but got 2nd at regionals

The story of the epic fail PSL blade
We cut it with an X Acto, threw it on the floor, it got an amazing score, but it was 1 millimeter too small. Then, it fell, the wing broke off, we reglued it, and it fits the rules and gets our high score. And it got us a bronze medal at Nationals.
