I saw one already with a TEN MILLION efficiency!

Oh, wait... that would be sorta bad for the new rules.

(and joking, anyways. Just commenting on the new scoring system.)

The scores in the 2000s from last year seem so puny now. Sad.

These scores are going to be ridiculous...

5g tower, holds 15kg, 9,000,000 efficiency. Of course this is probably top 5 material, if not a winning score (idk tower scores but that looks like itd be pretty competitive).

Wait, is it (mass held)^2/(mass of bridge)^2? Or is it just mass of bridge, not squared.

Just [load supported]^2/[mass of tower]. Personally, I think the scoring system is a little weird, but I do like that they're trying to put a little more emphasis on holding more weight.

There is a decent benefit for holding all the weight monday I will post the spreadsheet I made

Essentially, it is the same system as last year, but now you have a target weight to hold. 15kg.

Just aim for 15.5 or something to make up for uncontrollable circumstances. But yes, a 15kg load is absolutely necessary here...

That might be overdoing it though. Let's say you have a structure with an efficiency of 1000 (not by the new rules - I have an objection to calling that "efficiency," because it is not).

So let's assume your structure needs to weigh 15.5 g to hold that 15.5 kg. Your score is 15,000^2/15.5, or 14.5 million. But say you made it to hold 15 kg - a 15 g tower - but it actually fails at 14.9 kg. Your score is 14,900^2/15.0, or 14.8 million. If it failed at 14.8 kg, the score would be 14.6 million - still higher.

The new scoring system makes little sense though. But that's a topic that was hashed out in the end of last year's bridge thread, so I won't bring that back up.

When did squaring masses start happening? When I was in Division B, it was just the mass held / mass of tower.

It's in the new draft rules... I think they changed it for this year.

They changed the scoring this year so it's [load supported]^2/[mass of tower].

You can bring the topic back up if you'd like.

They apparently wanted it to count more for being able to hold all the weight... I don't know, I'm not big on building events.

to place a greater emphasis on the weight held.
so the towers are designed to hold closer to the 15kg max because in real life bridges and towers are built to not fail and they didn't want to bring back the tier 1/ tier 2 holds/breaks rule.

To put emphasis on weight held pretty much - and smartkid i suppose 15.5 was kind of an exaggeration. But yes, that does make more sense.
