Re: Preliminary:Forestry
Ooooh I loved Forestry as an event.
I wasn't particularly good at it, I'll admit, though. Basically, I split it with my partner (i took the first half she took the second) and she was really good, but I could really only identify the pines (easy, just count the needles in each bundle). The spruces all looked the same, in my opinion, and so did the oaks >.>
But I enjoyed it nonetheless. I might still have my binder somewhere but it's unlikely. Anyway, I vastly prefer this event to Herpetology, that was terrible.

Interesting.luo wrote:It's interesting that with the elimination of Ecology and Ornithology in favor of Water Quality and Forestry, there would be no remaining events about non-human animals. Although Water Quality may include a bit of water-creature information, I don't think it would be enough to make up for the major void that would exist with no remaining zoological events.

Re: Preliminary:Forestry
I'm actually getting interested now
Does anyone think Forestry would include stuff like atmosphere, climate, and insects?

Re: Preliminary:Forestry
Hmm, did this for a Trial event at Regionals last year and got 8th with a week of studying. Since I only had such little amount of time with my trees, I don't really have an opinion of this event. I guess if I treated it like one of my main events I would've enjoyed it.

Nothing about insects, except possibly if the tree is known for being the main food for certain insects or something.fishman100 wrote:I'm actually getting interested now

You might see a bit on atmosphere and climate when talking about living conditions for the trees, but this is an ID event, so it's not gonna deviate too far from the subject of trees.

Re: Preliminary:Forestry
this sounds like fun...hmm...i took a peek at the last forestry list...it looked a bit long (for trees) but considering we have ~5monthes to learn, i think it'll be fine..so it's just like forestry right? like sorta IDing the plant and stuff about it? though i don't really know what there would be to it...maybe habitat... im lookin forward ish..though i would much rather have ornithology stay...

Re: Preliminary:Forestry
I've never done an ID event, so I'm thinking of adding it to my list for next year. What do the tests typically involve?

Re: Preliminary:Forestry
ID tests usually can be run as a powerpoint or in stations. Forestry will probably be run as stations at most competitions – it's easy to get leaves or bark since the trees don't move. Half of the test is identification and half is knowledge based questions about trees, with specific questions about trees on the list. Resources allowed will probably be similar to ornithology – 1 or 2 field guides per team and a couple pages of notes. They might bring back binders, but it's unlikely.QuantumLeaper wrote:I've never done an ID event, so I'm thinking of adding it to my list for next year. What do the tests typically involve?
