the top two winners in southern california had 2:25 and 2:34 with chinooks
probably would have been longer if there was nothing on the roof (the gym roof had a lot of lights and bars and the helicopters kept bumping into them)
Tell me if I'm wrong, but doesnt it wokr this way:
However, allowing rotors to hit, gonna slow down the rotors when at the ceiling
Wont affect the power or speed in rubber and rotor when start to descend though
So if the helis were designed to not hit, and were hitting, the times should be longer than normal

*edit
oh yeah, forget to mention,
this wud only work for chinook, , where both rotors hit
if for coaxial, slowing down the top rotor, will mainly just make the bottom rotor spin faster, and use same amount of winds

i guess you could test by holding heli by hand and then see how long it takes until rubbers' torque cannot support heli anymore,
and compare with the time until a bumping helicopter takes until descent

Im guessing time can increase by 20%, but probably varies between different chinooks

It certainly could, although I dont know how significantly. At regionals, my helicopter bounced off of a rafter and took a nose dive. It righted itself, but it certainly costed several seconds.

Just to get a sense of the competition, what was the breakdown of times at Nationals last year? What place do you expect a helicopter with a 2:10 (or so) time would get?

LAST YEAR
that would of placed or close to it.
I went there and timed all the flights but I've since lost the sheets. I believe however that was within top 10 of LAST YEAR
this year I can almost ensure it won't.

If I recall correctly, my teammates had a shade over 2 minutes as a flight time and placed 15th. This was in a dome with a high ceiling though, so it might have inflated times a bit.

I see maybe around 3:00 to place, maybe 3-4 chinooks that might get a bit over 6 minutes (after the bonus)

At nats?
I see all placing teams with chinooks exceeding 2:00 minutes and even top 10 being chinooks with maybe 1 coaxel at the lower end

why do you think as many as 10 teams?

If there were a few very good ones in CA that we're hearing of I'm sure there are more around.
I like to be more cautious perhaps...
+ any chinook that exceeds 1 minute of flight time will essentially beat any coaxel design. I've seen or heard of very few coaxels exceeding 3:00

That is true, but Troy got 6th (i believe) in helicopter. Otherwise I've only heard of 2-3 chinooks around 2:00.
So far I've heard of more great coaxials (~3:00) than chinooks.
