Re: Astronomy C

So why use B-V index to find temperature of a star when you can use Wien's law? What is the point of B-V index besides finding Temp? For one, from an observational standpoint, one can measure B-V index with just two magnitude measurements with a B and a V filter, as opposed to needing a full spectr...

Re: New York 2013

Plus I hear West Point is really nice. So I honestly think a lot of upstate teams would prefer if it were at West Point or somewhere like that. At least the ones from this region always have. West Point was a wonderful place to hold the tournament. Beautiful campus, nice buildings, and good campus ...

Re: Astronomy C

Look at the SoCal 2012 Astro Test. Derivatives appear on the first page...but from what I gather, you don't need to know what derivatives are, but you use the table of values given to calculate it. But how on earth do you calculate the Chandrasekhar limit? (that was one of the questions) http://www...

Re: Scioly Summer Study Session 2013

They will be based on the most current rules available for that event if you have them. If it is an event that has never been present before (like Simple/Complex Machines), the best we can do is use our common sense and test on simple/complex machines. If someone would like to give or post a copy o...

Re: Bring Back the Events!

I want Dynamic Planet Earthquakes and Volcanoes to come back sooner. I love Glaciers, but Earthquakes are much more interesting. I can't wait three more years...
DP Earthquakes & Volcanoes, I think, is by far the best DP

Re: MagLev C

Does anyone know the first two American inventors that theorized maglevs?
From what I know, I believe it was James Powell and Gordon Danby from Brookhaven National Laboratory. I'm not quite sure if they were indeed the first, but I know they were at least one of the first.

Re: MagLev C [Trial]

Sorry for my confusion, only the NY State Trial Event Rules explicitly stated "Ampere's Law" this past year. The National Trial Rules did not mention it. While I agree with that unwritten rule, the actually calculus involved in a simple Ampere's Law problem (beyond the basis of understanding) is qui...
