I think Machines was always gonna be rotating out, it's been two years (not counting the replay for this year).

Re: Water Quality B/C

I have been having an issue with my salinometer. I only made three marks for 0, 5, and 10 percent salinity solutions, but they were all only a few millimeters apart. What can I do to make my marks more spread out? Also, if the beaker that I make my salinometer in is a different size than the beaker...

Re: Fossils B/C

Hi again! Under 34) Subclass Ammonoidea, there's (Goniatite, Ceratites, Ammonites). Do you think we should have information on those specifically? Also, thanks to everyone who replied to my previous questions! :) You should be able to identify those suture types, and I'd say that you also want to b...

Re: Water Quality B/C

I've seen some references to electronic salinometers. Are those actually allowed by the rules?

It say "Teams must build, calibrate, bring and demonstrate a salinometer/hydrometer."

Does it count as building if you use an electronic one?

Re: Codebusters C

Any tips on solving monoalphabetic ciphers? Also, can you get a good score without a team member who knows Spanish? Keep an eye out for common words. Frequently appearing three-letter words are commonly "the" or "and", so trying to figure those out can be a good starting point. ...

Re: Fossils B/C

So I was studying a bit and noticed that the classes for the brachiopods on sites contradict what it says on the list. It says that inarticulata and articulata have been superceded by what I assume to be lingulata and rhynchonellata. If I were asked on a test to give the classes of one of these spe...

Re: Is Science Olympiad worth it?

Wow, got a notification that I was mentioned in a comment and that was a blast from the past, I wonder why someone is digging up comments from 7 years ago. I was maybe a bit unnecessarily mean in that, funny to see things have changed in those years, haha. I've learned how to identify trolls better,...

Re: Rocks & Minerals B/C

Quick mineral question- Our minerals list has two entries under "Feldspar Potassium" which are Amazonite/Microcline and Orthoclase/Microcline. I keep finding Microcline as its own separate mineral... Can someone explain why Orthoclase and Microcline are together on our list? (and Amazonit...
