Re: Indiana 2011
I'm fairly certain the answer to that question is "star sponge" or something similar.

Wow! What an exciting competition. Great job all teams!
Anyway, I think special congratulations go to Northridge for winning the state title in the C division!
Also, congratulations to TJ for winning the B division!

Re: Wind Power C
Well, if your blades are just free-spinning, then you want really thin blades that won't create a lot of drag. If you hook up a load (resistor in this case), then I would think you would need blades that catch more air. To accomplish this, an increase in blade surface area might help. Of course, the...

Re: Wind Power C
In regards to construction, last year I used basswood instead of balsa for extra strength. This year, since I assume the assemblies will have a quite a bit more surface area, I would think that you might even need something sturdier than basswood. Also, you do not need masses of technology to do wel...

I know this has been said before but does anyone know when and/or where the 2010 national astronomy test will be posted?

Re: 2010 FIFA World Cup
England had the majority of the possession for most of the match so although they were probably outplayed, it wasn't too lopsided .
I think that the unfair call unsettled the players and caused them to play poorly in the 2nd half.

Wow! I didn't make the list despite the fact that I spend days at a time on this site.
I feel slightly better about myself and a lot worse about everyone else.

Re: Technical Problem Solving C
Station 1: You are given 3 pendulums of varying lengths and a stopwatch. Construct a graph using the paper provided and use it to estimate the period of a pendulum of length 10cm/100cm. Station 2: Given this box where the base is star-shaped, find the volume. Station 3: Remove some water from a bott...

Re: Physics Lab B/C
But energy is just power multiplied by time. The way the problem was worded, one would have to assume that the amount of time that the wind turbine was running would be constant. Therefore, if the power is 8 times as much, so is the energy.

Re: Physics Lab B/C
Other other one we were very unsure about was the question "What type of energy is the event supervisor measuring when he takes a voltage reading?" My partner decided to go with potential energy, since the "voltage" part of it does mean that it's a measurement of electric potent...
