Re: Junkyard Mystery Material?

No secrets here: When I ran this event, the single biggest thing that influenced my decisions for which mystery materials to give was whether I could find enough for all the teams. I remember once I wanted to give AOL CDs as the mystery item, but I only had 45, and there were 48 teams. I wanted to d...

Re: Anyone been DQed at Nationals and felt it was wrong

In the building events I have participated in at nationals I have found that the vast majority of the event supervisors are very knowledgeable in the events and while quite strict, the event supervisors generally err on the side of the students if they are unsure. I dont think they would DQ someone...

Re: Site features? (again)

Darn it, hurry up DarkSabre! I've already got two new targets...

In all seriousness, much props to the coding and admin team around scioly.org. What you do isn't easy, and brings a lot of fun and usefulness to a lot of people. Keep it up!

Re: Site features? (again)

I'm still waiting for my "Nuke User" button to be added to my user control panel. As noted by my "Joined date", it's been nearly seven and a half years.

Get hot. ;)

I voted for Arsenal. Then I smashed a bottle over the head of my Tottenham Hotspur-cheering neighbor at George & Dragon. Bloody serves 'im right.

Re: Mac or PC?

I've been using a iBook G4 happily since the spring of 2006, but before that, everything was DOS or unix in my house (more Unix than DOS).

But I do remember the days of parkheads(). Wow, that was a long time ago.

Re: Electric Vehicle C 2009

So I haven't seen electric vehicle run at nationals yet. But I will defer to experience here: 198.5/200 is a good score. But based on what I saw over the years with Mousetrap Car, Scrambler, Wheeled Vehicle, etc. is that at the early rounds, being consistent is most important. If you have a car that...

Re: Weighting ACL and AP classes

Like it matters... I was an aide to an admissions board at the Naval Academy, and we "normalized" all of your GPAs to an unweighted 4.0 scale before we gave them to the board anyways. Asking the admissions officer, that's pretty typical amongst most of the prominent colleges. After college...
