Re: Protein Modeling C
Okay, let's say you want to represent two amino acids. It would look something like this (pardon the makeshift drawing): http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q575/EASTstroudsburg13/2cmtoober.jpg?t=1414174349 So for a two-amino acid chain, you would need 2 cm of Toober, since you have one amino acid ...

Re: Forensics C
Yeah, I have no idea how many we left blank. We didn't have enough time to make sense of our giant list of answers at the end, so we ended up having to choose our final suspect essentially fifty-fifty from the two names that showed up most often. We ended up getting 7th.Steelfoam wrote:yup we skipped 30 questions

Re: Protein Modeling C
The raw scores are out! We got 11th :( failed the test Yeah, the test killed us too (I wouldn't say we failed it – we got 23/30 – but we definitely should have done better). I think the PCR question was probably where we lost the most points; if I recall our answer correctly, we only got one point ...

Re: Experimental Design B/C
Those ideas might be better incorporated if the event was designed so that competitors had to complete an experiment before competition. At competition the teams could turn in a lab report and take a test on experimental design and famous experiments. A huge problem with this set-up would be possib...

Re: Experimental Design B/C
Phenyl: what would you think of (in addition to your interpretation of NC's event) asking questions about "landmark" experiments in various fields? idk, just brainstorming. Eh, I feel like that would require students to know details of too many different experiments. I like the idea of us...

Re: Chem Lab C
What was the lab for NY? Teams were given a bunch of stickers with names of colleges on them, and a sort of periodic table-shaped grid. Based on various information they were given about the colleges (size, location, degrees offered, etc), they were supposed to arrange the stickers into a "per...

Re: National Results Discussion
Thoughts on the national results? I think everyone did a great job :D I was not suprised when Solon won in both B and C divisions, and very suprised PJG and WM didn't place top ten. Gelinas was a surprise, but I don't think Ward Melville has ever been top ten. We tend to treat Nats like a reward fo...
