Re: chalker, can I...

chalker, could you implement a rule in which if a certain percentage of teams are tiered (let's say, 50%), then the event would be trialed - to prevent unreasonable supervisors from skewing team results too much? I little internal SO politics for you all: I HATE tiering. I've pushed hard to elimina...

Re: chalker, can I...

Chalker, could you by chance add something to the rules, especially for build events, that would allow coaches to compete in any vacant time slots in events? Not to compete with students, but just for fun, and perhaps a cheap trophy. Something like a wooden spoon with the competition written on it ...

Re: "Oldies But Goodies" Events

What is the problem with releasing the results, anyways? All of the tests should have been graded and put together to find the winner in the first place, right? Am I missing something? What you are missing is the same thing we are missing: those actual results. These events didn't go through the ty...

Thanks for clarifying. You did indeed help me better understand your perspective.

Re: Nationals Event Discussion

I really wish the keynote speaker knew what scioly was. and wasn't weird, outdated, and patronizing towards women and female people; I think we all knew that women could do science before he got up on that stage and blew our minds  I'm really quite surprised by this statement and wonder if yo...

Re: "Oldies But Goodies" Events

Oh, also: what was the thought process on giving ONE shirt to the pair of competitors that won...? (https://photos.app.goo.gl/EqnySyZSs5X8o3cq9) It's news to me that shirts were given out. Like I said, the national scoring team wasn't involved in those events at all, so we didn't even know there we...

Re: Sounds of Music C

don't know if this is official at all (so take this with a grain of salt) but i think i saw chalker say in the nationals event discussion that they're planning to make significant changes to sounds next year. hopefully they will do something along the lines of what you said edit: just realized TheS...

Re: Oldies But Goodies

Apparently, the placings for the Oldies but Goodies events are not coming. They posted the first-place winning teams on the screen before the opening ceremony, but that's it. Nobody else who participated in these events gets to find out how they did. I don't get it. The people running these events ...

Re: "Oldies But Goodies" Events

Anyone have the full rankings? I've heard from one of the tournament directors that these results are not available (other than the first place winners which appeared on screen at the opening ceremony). I don't get it. I've got students who studied for these events and they get absolutely zero feed...

Re: No show at nationals?

We still don't know what happened to the MS team... we spent several hours Saturday morning trying to contact someone associated with the team to ensure they weren't in some emergency situation. The VT team had transportation issues a few days prior, so we knew about them on Friday.

Thermo is rotating out this year.

Re: chalker, can I...

Dear Dr. Chalker, I would like to make suggestions for the Density Lab rules in the 2020 season. To give you some background on me, I received 2nd place at IL State (where the national event supervisor was supervising). Thus, I would say that I am moderately knowledgeable about the event and its to...

Re: Nationals Event Discussion

So someone came into my sounds testing room with me and basically videoed/photographed (I think videoed, but not sure) my entire build run. Is this normal? I’ve never encountered something like this before. Normally I wouldn’t raise any eyebrows, except this event is coming back next year, and ther...

Re: 2019 National Tournament: Cornell University

Yeah, I agree as well. Even though I wasn't there and didn't see the strobe lights, I know how big of a problem they can be for people that suffer from epilepsy or just have generally sensitive eyesight. Whoever organizes this stuff should think about the potential effects of strobe lights and cons...
