Re: Physics Lab B/C

I had them in my binder, along with heat transfer equations. I never needed them for any tests, but it might be a good thing to have, at least if they ask a qualitative question about specific heats or something of that nature

Re: 2011 Events.

Trajectory's gonna be gone. At States the other day for Div C, I saw so many perfect runs with bucket shots that they'd be crazy not to end it, or at least limit size or construction a LOT. They might do trebuchets, though. Sound of music is a cool event, but it really doesn't require a whole lot of...

Re: New York 2010

Does anyone have the scuttlebutt on Physics Lab? The test, as far as I know, was not according to the rules (it was basically last year's conservation of energy questions with 10 or so Alternative Energy questions stuck on the end--the topic is purely alternative energy and heat transfer, for those...

Re: Physics Lab B/C

Thanks, it was my Regionals. I figured there was no way I medaled, so they had to call my name a few times before I realized I did  I'll have to actually study for States  Been there, it's kind of exhilerating, isn't it? And then of course I got thrown in for states, too, which was never ...

Re: Physics Lab B/C

The general rule for "Can I bring?" questions is that you shouldn't bring anything that isn't explicitly stated in the rules. =P Good point, that would be a dumb DQ to get. If you were to make a one bladed turbine, how would you make a counterbalance Find the moment of inertia of the one ...

Re: Physics Lab B/C

You cannot change the position at a competition and that is why you test beforehand. All air is not the same. Check out the wright stuff forum for ground effect. And the blades we use are just vertical wings. There is probably a reason why the rules require the fan to be so high above the tabletop ...

Re: Physics Lab B/C

Where you place the blade in relation to the fan is also a big variable as I have gotten significantly different results based upon blade height , distance from fan and even on how you place it from side to side. Set up a test and watch the voltmeter vary as you move it around. Yet that's the same ...

Re: Physics Lab B/C

can anyone add a physics lab exam on the test exchange? The one that's on there already from last year isn't challenging enough No one has gotten back to my coaches about scrimmage or regionals tests, so I can't help there. Does anybody have a better idea on what to study at this point? We had our ...

Re: Physics Lab B/C

I built a fan for the first time today out of a 2 liter bottle. It has3 rounded, curved blades attached to the disc with some balsa wood and super glue. I tried testing it but after reaching a certain speed, the disc would pop off of the cd rotor. any advice on how to improve the design? The blades...
