Re: Texas 2013

YEAAAAAAAA CONGRATULATIONS TO SEVEN LAKES!!!! REPPIN KT,TX and well TEXAS IN GENERAL!

Yeah but considering they're fed by Beckendorff, it's not surprising that it didn't take long for them to advance that much.

Re: Texas 2013

Did anyone here time there own Grav vehicle and the proctors be off by 0.45 seconds or more We didn't do it at the time (didn't think we'd need to) but it was kind of weird because the proctors' times were wayyy off compared to the times of our many many trials. And we meticulously made sure the fl...

Re: Texas 2013

It might be just me, but this might have been the least-organized State competition in a while. I wholeheartedly agree. And like, this is minor in comparison to the wind problem for Storm the Castle, but one of their weights was actually >15cm tall, which kind of screwed my team over because the gu...

Re: Texas 2013

Have you guys (Cy-Falls) sent the packages for schools that were missing at the awards ceremony? My coach has been waiting to receive the tests and medals for a while now... (Katy High School)

Re: Texas 2013

Congrats to 7lakes on first place! That's all I know for right now from a friend... But it was a pretty good competition, a nice way to spend my last Cy-Falls comp, haha. Congrats to everyone!

Re: Disease Detectives B/C

Where in the rules does it say that the topic is environmental quality? In part d of number 3, they list food poisoning, West Nile and state data on bicycle injuries.... (I could be misunderstanding something because this is my first year for the event...) edit: forget the above, sorry, that was rea...

Re: Fermi Questions C

4 days before competition, I've been thrown in. So... besides lots of constants to be memorized, what else should be on my list of things to do?

Re: Water Quality B/C

I made one a step up from the simple clay and straw, but still it isn't that accurate, i just know it :( Since you get the point for measuring to the nearest percent, should line spacings of around 2.5% be enough for a rough estimate? I thought I depended on the proctor, but I think that's good eno...

Re: Water Quality B/C

Try distilled instead of deionized water... Aren't they the same? My understanding is that deionized water may still have some dissolved gases and such in it.... distilled water is pure water with no gasses or other particles/substances. But yeah, the soinc one is pretty crappy. A team at my region...

Re: Water Quality B/C

I hope this hasn't been answered yet.. We've been having problems building a salinometer like the one they recommended we make, with a straw and clay. Every day that we test any of our salinometers (we've used 3 types of clay already) in tap water, they all float to a different line than the day be...

So it IS possible for them to use something other than NaCl? But would that mean that calibration would have to be different for each salt or no.. Am I like, overthinking this...

Yes

I hope so, but they may use CaCo3 sometimes...

Woah, woah, woah, why would they use CaCO3? I mean... saltwater.. is where salt is the solute... which is NaCl....
