Re: ELG Rules

Unless you are flying in an extremely high ceiling site, Gliders of the 3.5g weight had no trouble reaching the ceiling in every gym we competed in so I don’t see the advantage to being too much higher than the minimum. The kit gliders my not for profit company is offering this year typically build ...

Re: ELG Rules

The rule that says the flight "stops when any part of the airplane touches the floor" means you can't drop off any pieces during the flight. I took this from last year's Wright Stuff, but there's a similar rule for all the flying events. Yeah, I'd forgotten that. Oops. Well, maybe there's a way to ...

Re: Nationals

Was it the Finny18 design?
No, it was similar to the Finny18 but was actually built before those plans were published.

Re: Nationals

John: I think its more than luck, at least the separation from 2:00 to 2:29. The altitude had definite impact on the prop RPM. I saw a lot of planes that the RPM was just way high. Our experience having to go down in altitude other years was that the times did not change much if you adjusted your r...

Re: Nationals

I knew our 2nd place was tight, but wow... Makes you think "what one little thing might have changed it" So proud of my team, though. They worked hard to get a medal. Over 40 props tested, as it all came down to prop and rubber. Coach Chuck I believe anytime you can fly on the top 10 at Nationals, ...

Re: Nationals

Hello Everyone, I finally got around to looking back at the raw scores at Nationals (without bonuses). I listed the top 10 and not just the medal places. It's actually amazing how close the top 2 and then the top 10 actually were. It's good to see such a tight spread at Nationals. From a statistical...

Re: Nationals

We got 4th with a raw time of 1:58?. It could have been much better, but basically what happened was that the event supervisor's organization brought us down a little. I'm not going to explain the whole thing, but I had to rush everything so that I wouldn't be late for optics(and I still was). We w...

Re: Nationals

Still though. Even with a different propeller that moves slower it pushes less air too, resulting in it not going as high.

Any video of 2:30+ flights?
I didn’t get a video of the 3:00 flights this year but last years Nationals winning flight is on YouTube.

Re: Nationals

2:45????? Are you saying you have that time? This is literally not possible.... I had a perfect flight in a small gym the other day and I barely got over 2 minutes (barely touched ceiling, went up and down slow) Also, what are the highest times you've seen at invitationals? It all depends on who go...

Re: Wright stuff times?

I saw a video from like 2009 (?) that had a 5 minute time at nats. What were normal times that year in a 20-25 ft gym?
If I remember correctly, the maximum motor weight was 2.0g back then. It alone would give an estimated 33% improvement. The wing cord was also larger. So not a great comparison.
