Re: Texas 2011

For UT, I think Connally got 3rd in C division.

In B division, I'm pretty sure 3rd was the Austin Area Homeschoolers and 2nd was St. Stephens (I'm sure they both got trophies, but I might be off on the order.

Good luck at your regional next week, Seven Lakes.

Re: Texas 2011

There will be some LASA people there (maybe a bit over 10), but most of them aren't in SciOly.

Re: Ohio 2010

Our school has a SciO class - it's 1 period and used to work on events. You can be in the class but not on the team and likewise on the team but not in class. People who don't compete who are in the class are theoretically producing study materials/practice tests. A few people also have off-periods ...

Re: Texas 2010

Yes, we do have a Solon alum helping us. Two actually, if I remember correctly. They've been helping since last year, so take that, relative to when we "started having success," how you will - the year before they started to help coach some events (mostly engineering), the team placed 19th at nation...

Re: Texas 2010

To clarify, I meant for it to be interpreted as Andrew said. I was not attempting to say that a team composed of younger members cannot do well, nor was I trying in anyway to lessen your accomplishment. I certainly believe that 6th graders can be essential to a team (heck, back when I was in B divis...

Re: Texas 2010

Texas doesn't give tests back year to year because they don't necessarily rewrite them (a lot don't change at all between years)... I don't think the ecology test actually changed much since last year. Kealing has 4 9th graders who have been around since they were in 6th grade, plus a few 8th grader...

Re: Texas 2010

Kealing got in the mid 20s in both Trajectory and Ecology. One of their coaches was up there asking about it, as their eco people believe they did significantly better than that (plus they have at every tournament), and the trajectory hit both targets pretty close to the center (less than 20 cm is t...

Re: Your Transportation?

Cypressfalls_Robert might be aware of this, but we (at LASA and Kealing), have generally taken a bus. Since I've been around, both have made it to nationals, so we'd share a bus (half for each school). A few people who need to leave later for whatever reason or who don't fit may fly. Also, we flew t...

Re: Nationals: Campus Dorms or Hotels?

I'm definitely a fan of the dorms. The past nationals I've been to (back to Indiana), we've taken dorms when they're available (Indiana and GW if I remember correctly). It makes the experience a bit more special in my opinion. Plus, there are just slightly fewer distractions as everyone is a Scio pe...
