Re: Your Daily Random Comment

Can anyone recommend a good laptop for college students? Honestly, it depends a lot on what you want in a laptop -- power, battery life, ease of carrying around all day, etc... Based on my personal experience: ⋅ Definitely check out if there are any sales. I bought my college laptop (Leno...

Re: Astronomy C

Scored 71-74 depending on credit for ambiguous answers. This test was significantly harder than MIT. Not every invite has to be impossible, you know :P (Honestly, I think Tad/Donna do a much better job of difficulty than I do.) How does #73 work? I came up with all sorts of nonsensical answers but ...

Re: Astronomy C

I also wrote this test! (syo also helped with this one.)

I think I made it a bit too difficult for a Regionals... again. Sorry.

Re: Solar System B

I wrote a test! (syo helped.)

Perhaps not amazingly useful this late in the season, since it's written to be Regionals-level, but in my opinion it is a pretty decent test.

Re: Hypothetical idea

Not sure. I suspect someone would end up reporting it to MIT SO. With watermarks it's easy of course. Without - it's still not too hard to trace the IP address. It'd be a bold move, to be sure. I almost want to see it tried. Honestly, I think it'd be funny to see someone so determined to try and do...

Re: University of Michigan SciOly Invitational!!!

With all that said, I never want to help run a tourny ever again T_T. Amen to that. I just can't do the 6 AM to 10 PM tournament day (especially the 6 AM part...) Though, yesterday went pretty non-catastrophically, all things considered. Distribution was pretty good on my Forensics test, though the...

Re: Mis Graded event tests

Supervisors know this and (should always) try to make the tests as easy to grade as possible - think multiple choice over short answers, etc. Hahaha no. Admittedly, multiple choice is the fastest to grade, but as a testwriter it's absolutely terrible. Not only do I have to come up with (N-1) wrong ...

Re: Pennsylvania 2017

Central results are up! Results look pretty standard to me, though there are a couple things that stand out to me. ⋅  Eagle View MS with a total of 65, and 40 points clear of 2nd place -- did not know they were that dominant, nicely done to them ⋅  Wonder why WIDI was tossed for...

Re: Pennsylvania 2017

Can confirm ( via here ) that Hershey HS did win Central. Based on past years' results, this means Central York and/or State College will subsequently beat them at States. Edit: Link is being finicky; it seems to work only in incognito mode for unknown reasons. Relevant text quoted. • Hershey High S...

Re: Michigan 2017

Helping out with MI scioly this year was a great experience as always :) I may be at States as well, but it will depend on my finals schedule and summer arrangements.

Also, I will be uploading all the tests I wrote once all Regionals are over.

Re: Pennsylvania 2017

This is a really interesting section to me. In theory this seems like a really good idea; it'll ensure test quality and consistency throughout the state. My one concern is that if there aren't enough changes to tests, then people might share test information between regions, even though they will p...
