Re: Technical Problem Solving C
nope. not really. This event is so broad as it is, there's not exactly some way to change it without specifying it into another event.quizbowl13 wrote:are the rules the same this year? any big changes?

Re: Astronomy C
It's not that big of a change... not as much of a change between variable stars and galaxies. I wouldn't be surprised if some normal galaxy questions come up anyway agreed, but they really upped the level of ambiguity in regards of galaxies. I mean, like I haven't seen so many numbers in the past 3...

Re: Astronomy C
Anybody have a value for the Mass of the Milky Way Galaxy? and mass/age/size of halo of M82 Cigar Galaxy? Several sources say the Milky Way mass is 5.8 × 10^11 M☉, but I think that only consists of 120 kly radius from the center of MWG, but I don't know a more accurate number. Also, I don't know wh...

Re: Picture This C
We had the worst proctor at our Regional. This guy obviously did NOT read the rules carefully because on the 10th word or so, he told us "You can't draw those lines -- that's a pass. Here's your next word." Those lines were the lines used to indicate number of words. We all looked at each...

Re: Technical Problem Solving C
One of the standard questions for Tech Problem Solving for us has been find the number of atoms from in a plate made of some element. How exactly do you find that? Assuming you know the volume of plate, atomic radius of the plate, atomic mass of the element, weight of the plate, weight of 1 mol of t...

Yea. They don't have any constraints other than it has to be science, which is thousands of words. I seriously think some of these supervisors just close there eyes and pick words until they have enough. Out of curiosity though, does anyone know any other websites that provide a good deal of potenti...

Re: Astronomy C
Out of curiosity, do you think there will be a lot on the physics portion on black holes? I'm thinking that they might ask something about the Schwarzchild Radius, but I can't think of other stuff. Is it possible to find the mass of a black hole (I thought it was infinite since it has the singularit...

Does anybody know what specfic details might be questionsed in regard to forests? Besides the obvious deforestation and desertifications. Like, could they possibly question us on the chnage in CO2 levels in a forest over a period of time. Anything more like that? Well, I got one that had an image o...
