Re: FLIGHT TIMES, DYING TO KNOW WHERE WE STAND

My best time in a similar gym, 20 ft., was 2:58, but with no touches. My gym is just WAY to dangerous to try the continuous bounce thing... Also, my time at states was no touch, going about 35 feet high, without a torque meter because we "lost" ours, and couldn't attempt a torque back off without w...

Re: Designs

Yeah, sad that WS is cycling out. After helping with my older son since '05 through BLG and 2 years of WS in B, I am going to miss the flying events for sure. The Helicopter duration should be fun though. The Leading Edge kit has opened up a new possibility this year, though we used to have the opti...

That's what I saw at Regionals. At PA States, there were more Leading Edge and its varieties. I will post a pic of our planes. Bad luck at States, but the planes fly very well.

Re: Flight Times

Congrats to eta150 who won the PA State Wright Stuff today with a flight of 3.07 Very nice plane, flow expertly! Very nice guy too. I wish you good luck at Nationals, as Bala Cynwyd also won the PA team title. Behind the champ, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place teams were within about 1 sec. of each o...

Re: Flight Times

Yes, and good luck to those who are going. Hope you enjoy the chance to fly at a place like that. :D

Re: Repairs

I just measured my wing, and it looks like it might be, like, half a millimeter out of specs (these things are so hard to measure). But I'm really positive I built to specs- building is certainly my strong point. But regardless now I'm out, this is my only plane, and States is this Saturday. What c...

Re: Flight Times

Good post, wisguy. I also wanted to respond to the PA student who asked about what kind of place a certain time would get. The absolute most important thing in your mind should be "What do I need to do to get my plane to fly its best time?" If you can go out there, under pressure, and in flying cond...

Re: Designs

Either design will work. Ziegler Freedom Flights kit have a single rudder. Cezar Banks Leading Edge uses tip plates. Both can fly well enough to win just about any competition if they are trimmed well and you have good flight data.

Re: Flight Times

Your times would have gotten 3rd place last year. This year, it's anyone's guess. I expect it to be much more competitive since teams have had an extra year with few changes needed to designs, other than the larger stabilizer. I will be helping the Supervisor, John Clapp, in some capacity next Frida...

Re: Flight Times

This post is not really about the seasoned flyers who are putting up great times, but about what a novice can accomplish. My #2 WS competitor built his first ever plane this year just before regionals, and got the plane to fly around 55 sec. back in March. He finally is getting some nice flights. To...
