Re: Gravity Vehicle C

Correct me if I am wrong on this, but my line of thinking is the following: An independent, movable mass on the vehicle is traveling at the same velocity as all of the other components on the vehicle. If a string were to be attached to the axle and this mass and the string were to wrap around the a...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

This brings up an interesting point of discussion: would it be possible to move the center of mass during the run of your vehicle? In the ready to run position, Id estimate wanting about 90% of the mass in the rear, but after the vehicle has descended down the ramp, it is more advantageous to have ...

Re: Detector Building C [TRIAL]

What microcontroller board is the best one to buy? I'm talking about functionality, how difficult to use, etc. I would highly recommend the Arduino over others, mostly because the Arduino is beginner-friendly and has lots of resources. If you have experience with other microcontrollers, like Raspbe...

Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020

What made sumo bots so much pay to win? Like wouldn't you be able to buy an rc car and slap some mods from hardware store materials and call it a day or am I overlooking something? Sumo bots is all about finding the strongest, heaviest, most durable, and hardest materials. These things don't come w...

Re: Sounds of Music C

What is the points penalty if your instrument's notes are in an octave above the range specified by the rules? The rules apparently designate the allowed range as F2-F5 and our scale is C6-C7. How many points would we lose if we still used that instrument? You'd basically lose all the points for th...

Re: Sounds of Music C

And it looks like they are going for best pitch rather than average. Huh. Not bad. I'd hope for more states to do this, because average pitch is a painful process; it really dents the performance of strike-based instruments(unless you can somehow strike so fast that the delay is negligible). I don'...

SoCal SciOly just posted the method they're going to be using for State: http://socalscioly.org/downloads/Sounds ... esting.pdf

It looks like they're using Audacity instead of Google Science Journal.

Re: Screw Task

I tried attaching a rope to the screw and then pulling the rope to rotate the screw. But I tested that and the screw doesn't rotate. Sounds like you have too much friction in your system? Trying to rotate a screw in a threaded block (or a nut) probably has too much friction involved; I'd probably d...

Re: Circuit Lab Question Marathon

Your numbers are off by I think a factor of 2. Quick check: 5V across 2000 ohms is 2.5mA and across 1800 is 2.8mA, for a total current of 5.3mA across 514.3 ohms, for a voltage of 2.7 volts. Thus you have a 9-5-2.7=1.3V discrepancy in the 5V load configuration. Also finding the maximum efficiency m...
