Re: Gravity Vehicle C

I was going over last year's powerpoint of Mousetrap Vehicle and something interesting that I saw was that the thicker the axles the faster your vehicle will go. When considering this, is it more effective to build your vehicle with say, 1/2 inch axles with no bearings, than 1/4 inch axles with bea...

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C

wow just got back the raw scores from socal state competition.
it's a lot more competitive than i thought-- i got 11th with 1 point, first was -3.15.
That's depressing, especially since my car really failed that day.

Re: Sign Task

I feel like the balloon would reach it's terminal velocity rather quickly, thus it's momentum would be capped for a short enough string length such that ceiling height wouldn't matter. Is this not the case? I too highly doubt they are using momentum to lift something. More likely, they are just usi...

Re: Remote Sensing C

Also, what are the units for spatial, spectral, radiometric, and temporal resolution? Spatial- units of length, like m or in. Or it could be square meters, I guess Spectral- basically how many different wavelengths it can detect (multi-spectral has higher spectral res) Radiometric- units of intensi...

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C

So I got my old teams team’s time down to the low 11 second rage and they can stop under 1cm on good runs [its very dependent on how the string is wound on the axel]. So that puts them around -6.6 for an expected state run, from other states is that top 6? At state last year there were teams that w...

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C

On the contrary, my regionals test was just 3 topo maps, with a lot of questions about them. It was pretty hard, but i managed to get 3rd :) What questions on topo maps did you have? On my regionals test, the test was about 1/3 map, but it only asked basic things, like find the lowest elevation, hi...

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C

Could someone please give me a good website for topo maps? topomaps.usgs.gov The test probably won't have many questions on topo maps though... Even if they do, they will probably be very basic things that you can use common sense and figure out. On the contrary, my regionals test was just 3 topo m...

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C

what was the braking system? I'm just curious as to how it could have been a violation... so it was a simple anchor-like design. as the mousetrap bar goes down, the hammer/anchor goes down and stops the vehicle... but i feel so stupid, i dont see how i missed the rule stating "no part of mtv may to...

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C

Our run took 16 seconds, so it was slow. :/ But it was about a foot away from the center. 1st place was spot on and took about 9 seconds. Wow that's a huge gap between 1st and 5th. My car totally failed at state-- 9 seconds, 30 (?!??!?!?!!!) cm off for 11th place. I beat Troy at regionals (I got 2n...

Re: Mousetrap Vehicle C

So are you guys using any sort of grips on your wheels for traction?
I thought that was a must-have.
