Re: Disease Detectives B/C

I'd recommend making a table including basic information on a lot of the common diseases, namely symptoms, mode of transmission, and type (bacteria/virus etc.). When the topic was foodborne I also included some more in depth info on each of those such as gram+/-, method of treatment etc. but since ...

Re: Disease Detectives B/C

I'm in tenth grade and competing in C for the first time, although I've been doing DD since I joined up in fifth grade. I feel out of my depth in DD for the first time in my life. The C Div tests require a lot of knowledge that I don't have and don't know where to look for. Can somebody recommend s...

I do NOT Understand this event. Can someone help me? :D Try taking a look at the 2014 training PowerPoint on the national website (link). I am sorry, but the link does not seem to work. Can you please check if it is updated? :?: Oh, it should work now. I apparently don't know how to copy-paste. :P

Re: Disease Detectives B/C

Just as a PSA, there's now a really good set of statistics learning guides on the soinc website for disease detectives in case anyone is struggling with the new math.

Re: Disease Detectives B/C

Man, it feels really weird to not be competing in this event after doing it for 5 years. Best of luck to all of you who actually are! :)

Re: Disease Detectives B/C

I had the chance to talk to GrayEpi about some of the planned changes for next year, and I do agree that they are quite exciting! (Though don't ask me for any details on them - as GrayEpi noted, info will only be coming from soinc)

Re: Materials Science C

Actually, it was quantitative. They gave you a protractor as well as a magnifying glass. After dropping all the drops, what you were supposed to do is magnify them and then use a protractor to estimate. You could get pretty close too because the magnifying glass was pretty decent. Alternatively, to...

Re: Materials Science C

WA had a lab on contact angles. We got four different surfaces, and had to compare the contact angle between them, draw the drop etc. We also had to model one of the crystal structures (each team got a different one). In your lab, did you have to quantitatively measure the contact angles or just co...

Re: How many posts do you have?

After several years on this forum, I only have 264 - most of them in the Disease Detectives, Optics, and Sounds of Music threads.

EDIT: If you include "non-counted' posts (mostly in the 10,000 post thread) it's actually 534.
