Re: Nationals results

Here are replies to the questions posed above, mamley, "How is stab twist/stick bending caused? High torque?" The prop hanger and the rear motor hook place the wound rubber motor below the motor stick, causing it to bow. This is because the rubber motor pulls on each end of the motor stick similar ...

Re: Nationals results

That was the first time it had ever happened...I repaired the plane in less than a minute, but then the next 2 rubber bands snapped at low torque. I only got off that first flight, which lasted less than eighteen seconds, as compared to my consistent four minutes. It's okay though, because I won ev...

Re: Compute This B

Did anyone get the last half of question #5 at NY states division B? They were asking how much body mass Cernan lost while he was on the spacewalk. We couldn't find it anywhere while we were searching. The test otherwise seemed fairly easy to us, but we ended up finding the data for the Excel table...

Re: Nationals results

MMP - Thanks for posting the amazing video of the 2nd place flight at Nationals. Congratulations to Marie Murphy. I was amazed that the plane did not go "dead stick", i.e. run out of winds, until near the end of the flight. Also, in further answer to another post, it was very smart to launch the pl...

Re: Building materials, covering

I've done it several ways. Quickest is to simply spray a light mist of 3M77 over the frame, flip it over and drop on covering. If you prefer a brush, thin it somewhere between 1 to 1 to as much as 3 to one, thinner to glue. How much depends on how heavy the covering is. Heavier coverings need more ...

Re: Nationals results

ok, if you got nothing better to do for 6 minutes, the video (up to 720p HD) of entire flight is now available at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wqt-FsekeqE Nice flight! And nice plane; I'm not much into modding specially made kits like for SO, but with the cheap ones like Guillow, I modded it a l...

Re: Building materials, covering

I have got a question about the material used to adhere the covering to the wing. My old coach used some sort of mix of Naphtha/lighter fluid and Super 77, but I can't seem to be able to figure out the correct ratio of each. He would mix the two together in a shot glass and then use a paint brush to...

Re: RC Airplanes

A little off topic again, but I think the point of Wright Stuff is to get you interested in stuff such as this! Originally this was mentioned in the FAI F1D topic, but it really doesn't fit in there, so here we are! Anyone interested in getting involved in RC (Radio Controlled) airplanes I know of ...

Re: Repairs

Hm, never needed Acetone myself for emergency repairs, not saying it can't happen, but haven't needed it. I don't use tape for repairs, some do. Too heavy. Need an appropriate glue for the mylar patch, thinned spray glue in a bottle works. A small brush to apply. In a pinch saliva works, brush is s...
