Re: New Mexico 2011

Discussion area for New Mexico 2011 Science Olympiad. This is my first time competing. Anyone from New Mexico in this forum? AustinRHL used to compete (he medaled at nats last year, i believe from Albuquerque Academy) but now that he graduated he hasnt been on much. Wow, that's a pretty unnerving l...

Re: AP scores

I got 5s on all four of my tests: Physics C Mechanics, Physics C Electricity and Magnetism, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics. With 5s on the four other exams that I've taken in the past three years - Chemistry, Biology, Calculus BC, and Spanish Language - I should be a National AP Scholar (which b...

Re: Cell Bio C

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant that the rules were unnecessarily restrictive. That said, with a pretty limited set of topics, supervisors really should be doing a better job of including advanced-level material.

Re: Cell Bio C

yes, cell bio is a better event because...because...it just is, and it has to do with EVERYTHING in the cell. Exactly. In my opinion, a hands-on aspect to an event just isn't necessary when the material is so fundamental and, above all, so interesting. That said, to live up to its potential, it rea...

Re: 2011 Events.

I can understand that frustration; I feel it myself, too, since a large portion of my team doesn't care much about studying, or even getting good results in competitions. We're lucky in that we come from a state with little competition, so we can get away with behavior like that and still go to Nati...

Re: 2011 Events.

I'd advise that you edit that post, lllazar. New Trier's team is no less hardworking than yours (actually, given how well they consistently do, I'm willing to bet that they work harder than you), and it's insulting to dismiss their success as being the result of their resources.

Re: 2011 Events.

What baffles me is why Awesome Aquifer (B) and Sumo Bots (C) have been listed under the Inquiry section, when they have absolutely no reason to be there. Surely, if the committee wants to move away from inquiry events, they could at least be honest about it and put those events where they belong. T...

Re: Anyone Medal at Nationals?

I won two medals, which are only the second and third ones that my school has gotten at Nationals in the past ten years (eight trips to Nationals), so I was pretty pleased even though I know that I could have done better. I expected a medal in Cell Biology because I know the material very well and m...
