Re: Designs

Hey guys, I was wondering... do you think it'd be better to have the chimney completely perpendicular to the test base? Or do you think it would be more efficient to have the chimney slightly slanted in towards the center. Orrrr, do you think it'd make a difference not worth the effort? Thanks for t...

Re: Water Quality B/C

Hey guys, I was wondering for the macro-invertebrates... when they list something like "Mayfly," do we have to know all the different types? OR do we just have to know the name of the different types and their different functions? If we do have to know the different types, how in depth sho...

Re: General Discussion

Two choices on curved wood I can think of. Throw out the crooked pieces (better, don't buy them to start with). Good wood is critical in this event, don't saddle yourself with a handicap before you even start building. Use the curves in equal and opposite directions so they offset each other and en...

Re: General Discussion

Well, we tried using a jig, but it still ended up crooked. :( I think it's because the actual wood itself is curved if I were to lay it on a flat surface. Is there a solution to this? Thanks so much for your help by the way!

Re: General Discussion

Hey guys! I was wondering, how are you guys are making the chimney of the tower? How do you make it straight? Because, usually our chimney is "slanted." And I believe that's what's causing it to break immaturely. Do you guys have a solution to this? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. T...

Re: Forestry B/C

Ohhhhh! I see it now! Thanks so much! Edit: Out of curiosity, where are you guys getting your additional tree information? Are you guys getting everything from the field guides? Because, I'm unsure as to what I should do and where I should get my information from. I feel like the info in the field g...

Re: Forestry B/C

It means that you can tab them. Like, post it notes, and such, to keep track of the pages. Also, does anyone have Sibley's guide? If you guys do, can you flip to page xxiii? And to the right, and the middle, it shows a "simple palmate" leaf. May I ask how that is palmate? Shouldn't that be...

Re: Forestry B/C

I see... thanks so much for your help guys! I really appreciate it. I suppose I'll go through all of the field guides I have, then take notes on the stuff on soinc's website... Also, I have a Sibley's Guide to NA Trees, and I was wondering, where are you guys writing all your notes? Because, earlier...

Re: Forestry B/C

Oh, I see. Thanks. :/ But, we don't even have an event supervisor yet. :( And our competition is on March 24th... So, is there something I can assume? I don't have any smashing advice...the 3 tests I've seen were all pretty faithful to the rules, so just study each item in the rules. Okay, thanks L...
