Re: Gaps

Spp- I am a coach and event supervisor, and I have been doing this since SO began. I have seen judges interpret rules in a way that will benefit their team at invitationals, regionals, and at state, and I think if this rule isn't clarified then that is leaving the door open to have this happen. The ...

Re: Gaps

I have posted this question on the official FAQ quite a while ago but have not had a response. The second sentence in 3i states that the vehicle must pass the span to continue its run. I feel that this may be interpreted by a judge that if a marble were to fall short of a span and fall into a lower ...

Re: Flag Rule Question

This is one that I could see different supervisors interpreting differently. If the raised flag is not considered in the height of the device,(5g) should the raising of the flag count against the width if it passes outside the initial measured dimensions? I personally would not count the movement as...

Re: Mission Possible B

In the example of the TSL you state on page two that "tasks 4, 6, and 10 use three different types of lever, earning the 50 bonus points" but task 6 is not a scoring transfer. In 5.l. it states "initiate different scorable transfers". 12 is a scorable transfer using 1st class, shouldn't the second p...

Re: Energy Transfers

I first ran into this problem judging a state competition about 15 years ago and all of the judges decided that if the student could describe the transfer as the way they list it and back it up with a logical argument then we counted it. A mission possible meet is not going to decide the debate on t...

Re: Mission Possible C

Thank you for your input Uncle Fester, I would have to agree with everything you said. For the rules not saying to or from I used line 4b to argue that the left column was being counted because they mention that " An Energy Transfer can receive points when it directly transfers from one Basic Energy...

Re: Mission Possible C

The battery combined with the motor are considered electrical. I have seen the switch to battery to light combined counted as mech to elect. to em. I would suggest asking a clarification to see how the writers recommend this be scored. Until then I suggest playing it safe and count only the light as...

Re: Mission Possible C

In the first case the electricity is running the motor, the second time the electricity is creating light. The black box in both cases would be the battery, you cannot count the chemical reaction because you didn't create it (if you used a lemon and made a battery then you could count it). In the fi...

Re: Mission Possible C

Answering what a transfer is would be just restating the rules, it probably won't be addressed by any of the national judges. Once you have been in the event and competed you will understand what I mean. This event probably has the greatest learning curve of all of the events. Let me give you an exa...

Re: Mission Possible C

For Chalker. Can you tell me if the program for grading mission will be available on the national page soon. Invitationals are beginning and it would be great to be able to use for scoring. I have also found that looking at the program answers many of the questions that I read and receive from parti...
