Re: Compute This B

I don't know if this is the same as software but I'm pretty sure we get a choice between a Mac or a PC.:P As to software, you should be using Microsoft Excel, right? And I have no idea about Mac vs. PC, or even Linux :P (I don't think they'll make you use that...) By the type of software, I meant t...

Re: Compute This B

Our State competition is this weekend. Does anyone have overall tips about this event? Also, is it true that when you look for a range of data, you shouldn't put the years in the search term? Put the year!!! And make sure you do the graphical problem first, unless you can't! It really helps. Guess ...

Re: Science Crime Busters B

Has anyone tested Ascorbic Acid and got a pH other than 2? Same with Alka-Seltzer. Has anyone gotten a pH other than 6 for that?

Re: Disease Detective B/C

Why is Norovirus less likely to respond to antibiotics than Toxoplasma gondii? (this is what it indicated on a test) Norovirus is obviously a virus and Toxoplasma gondii is a parasitic protozoa so shouldn't they have an equal chance of not responding to antibiotics?

Re: Disease Detective B/C

Can someone verify if this formula is correct? (This is derived from a more complicated one with symbols.)

pathogenicity (#dying/#exposed) = infectivity (#infected/# exposed) x virulence (# dying/# infected)

Thanks in advance!

Re: Disease Detective B/C

Wisconsin State DD test was written slightly poorly and the event supervisors could not answer any questions regarding what the poorly written test meant. Tables were inaccurate and made little sense and the test required us writing on a cramped note sheet. This was slightly surprising for the regi...

Re: Experimental Design B/C

Yes, I meant the steps of the rubric. (the one we memorized [2011] had numbers instead of letters) In my opinion, the data table & graphs are the easiest parts and easy to learn since there's a specific format you can follow. Also, they're commonly used in middle school science & math so may...

Re: Experimental Design B/C

The National exam last year was a human experiment. The topic was "heartbeat". Our experiment was # of heartbeats/minute vs. amount of time spent jogging in place. One thing about human experiments is that it's not clear what we should write under materials. I remember at the competition w...
