Re: 2019 National Tournament: Cornell University
Yes, we certainly would like to know the trial events for Nationals. Our state tournament (NM) is so stinking early we have been waiting for a hint for a month now for our alternates to know if they want to make to trip to Ithaca. And the Nationals site is still so empty of information. Very frustra...

Re: Disease Detectives B/C
My reading of the two boring epidemiology textbooks wasn’t for naught after all :D I really hope this change means ESs will stop confusing this with microbe mission XP Oh my god don't get started with that. Proctors must be thinking "hm, the event has the word "disease" in it, so why...

Re: Protein Modeling C
Since this event has three parts (Prebuild, Onsite Build, Test), how long would the test probably be? I'm focusing on the exam section of this event, but I was wondering if the test would take up the whole time block or it would be short enough that I could assist in the onsite build. This is my fi...

Re: Protein Modeling C

Re: Disease Detectives B/C What's new?
I noticed on this year's event description, the section about C level doing advanced statistics is gone, replaced by a requirement they do more on confounding, biases and prevention measures. Does this mean we can stop trying to teach college statistics?!! Probably will be more clear on the new DD C...

Re: Homeschool teams can be banned by state?
I've done a little research into this and have a bit better understanding of the situation. According to the NMAA website, "private/non-profit organization whose principle purpose is the regulation, direction, administration and supervision of interscholastic activities in the State of New Mex...

Re: Protein Modeling C
Our toober did seem a bit short, but just a millimeter off for 100+ 2 cm segments and you come up short. Better to mark just under 2 cm and not run out.

Homeschool teams can be banned by state?
Our state activities association in New Mexico just voted to change the bylaws that homeschool teams can no longer participate in activities in which the NMAA member schools do, including Science Olympiad, unless they join up with a member school. Homeschools are not allowed to join this association...

Re: Forensics C conductivity tests
Is there any of the powders this year in which doing a conductivity test would be the best identifier of that powder? My students do not think doing that test is really very helpful compared to other tests.
