Re: Disease Detectives B/C
Hello all, My regional tournament is coming up in about a week, yet I am still unsure about one section of the rules. If we look at section "f", subsection four, it says that we should be able to recognize "types of outbreaks and modes of transmission." Can anyone clarify what a...

Re: Disease Detectives B/C
No. A case study is a study of a single case - i.e., one patient. They are usually only done on extremely interesting or unusual patients, and are only of use in epidemiology in the aggregate and for poorly understood conditions. What did you see on your test? This could save a lot of time because you know everything you need to do. Our team personally splits the roles in...

Re: Disease Detectives B/C
What are the biases and errors that we had to know? Confounding error is the one that I see the most frequently. Other than that, it usually seems to be more along the lines of "identify some potential sources of bias/error in this study" or something along those lines. Even those are ver...

Re: Experimental Design B/C
Experimental Design(B Division) is one of my "new" events this year, so I was wondering if there are any important things I should know while doing this event. Can someone with a lot of experience with this event give me some tips and specific info about this event that is not generally i...

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
Do any of you know any good resources where we can find info on DNA sequencing, protein synthesis, and stuff like that? I'm guessing a lot of the stuff on the tests will include AP bio knowledge (which i haven't even taken yet... =.=)

Re: Materials Science C
So i guess it's basically applying chem and physics stuff to do certain things... So knowing properties of matter and measuring them would probably be a good thing to study.
