Re: New York 2015

Hi all, I am a member of the team that will be running the Cornell Invitational competition. We are currently finalizing certain plans for the competition. Our main meeting is tomorrow so hopefully sometime tomorrow night more information will be available to the public. Speaking from personal know...

Re: New York 2014

Since people started talking about it, I guess I'll add in my two cents First off, in case there was any ambiguity, I'm also from Ward Melville. I've been in science olympiad for around four and a half years, starting in seventh grade. Science olympiad means more to me than I could ever dream of art...

Re: New York 2014

Not sure how well known it is but I know that there are quite a few teams that are well informed. For instance, FM, syosset, half hollow hills, stuy, great neck south all know about the disqualification. Beyond those schools, I'm not quite sure.

Re: Entomology B/C

I'm pretty sure the rules said we have to know order, family, and common names. I think it's the common name of the family though. Yeah, common names for families. I'm assuming that these common names are the ones that are on the official list. I'm getting a little bit confused with the insect list...

Re: New York 2013

I've heard the Regionals tournament for Eastern Long Island has been postponed due to inclement weather. New regionals date will be 2/23/13.

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C

Personally I didn't like the division B test. It had only 50 questions and 40 being multiple choice. Additionally, there were ten questions (1/5th of the test) that was essentially just a poorly labelled black and white diagram... I might be being harsh about the event but comparing it with last yea...

Re: Awesome Aquifers B

At our state tournament, my partner and I lost points on porosity for not providing a demonstration relevant to the aquifer, because we measured porosity in two beakers separate from the aquifer. Does anyone know how we could get around doing so, while still demonstrating porosity? Did you use the ...

Re: 2012 National Tournament: University of Central Florida

This question is a bit off topic, but it goes under the national forum. For the tech scheduling, does it matter what slot you take? Meaning, if you take slot 1, does that mean you go first for the tech event, and if you're not there for your exact time slot immediately, you get DQed? Or is it that a...

Re: General Discussion

The tower would be 70cm tall, in a box that is around 80cmx40cmx40cm. It seems a bit too big to fit on a plane as a carry on? Thank you for the imput, though. Last year we didn't have this problem since a teacher drove to Wisconsin with our tech devices. We aren't as fortunate this year :|

Re: Te Pretest, or not to pretest?

Last year we got burned at State. Our potentially winning bridge had a catastrophic failure. The design was tested and built before, so we knew it would hold. But one of our top columns cracked early on. Not a crisis, we still got top-10, but it made us think about whether we should pretest our tow...

Re: towers results for your state: state, team, score and pl

New York C Division 1st place:

Fayetteville-Manlius: 7.63 g, 69.50 cm tall, 15.000 kg, score of 107.143

New York B Division 1st place:

Paul Gelinas: 8.74 g, 70.00 cm tall, 15.000 kg, score of 94.394
Any results for towers after first place in division B?
