Not many people know/care about Science Olympiad at my school. I'd wonder why, but I think I already know.

Re: Weird things that have happened at your school?
This didn't happen at my school, but at a nearby high school a group called Westboro Baptist Church came and protested with flashy signs. I don't know what they were protesting exactly, but no one could go out because of safety issues.

Re: Ornithology B/C
Quizlet helped me with identification, but you probably need to get really good at learning information about the birds as well. You can have the people who did Ornithology at Regionals or State help you, but if you spend too much time on Ornithology, then your chance of medalling in other events co...

Re: Worst books
I had actually read it in 3rd grade and thought it was okay, so when we had to choose between the two I recommended The View From Saturday. After reading one chapter, no one liked it and kept on saying "This doesn't make any sense. What's a BB letter?". I didn't find the Egypt Game a bette...

SoCal states (In Ornithology) Our proctors and supervisors were volunteers from Caltech: Proctor 1 : Welcome to...er.... Proctor 2 : Ornithology. Proctor 1 : Oh. Right. Me: (looks up bird in book) That's probably a Cactus Wren because of the marking above its eye. Partner: I agree, but you didn't ge...

Re: Worst books
Many things by Eoin Colfer are good. Has anyone read The View From Saturday? In fifth grade, the reading group I was in tried it, but everyone else found it strange and switched to The Egypt Game.

Re: Science Crime Busters B
Arch, tented arch, radial/ulnar loop, whorl, central pocket loop, double loop, accidental. If you count the central pocket whorl, then that makes nine types of fingerprints. Now that I think about it, we had to identify the eight types of fingerprints (without the central pocket whorl). Nevermind th...

Re: Science Crime Busters B
Oh. I meant that we didn't get any pictures of blood either. We had to identify nine different types of fingerprints. Also, the chromatography was in powders that one presumably had to mix with water and then put it on the paper strip... though my partner was unfamiliar with that, we managed to get ...

Re: Science Crime Busters B
Wait, were you in SoCal? I was in that and we didn't get any bloodstains (that I knew about). We did get large pictures of microscopic hairs and were asked to identify whether they were dog, cat, or human.

Re: Ornithology B/C
Are those rookeries? In the Southern California state test, there was a question on the Great Blue Heron. We were supposed to know the term for the colony it breeded in. My team completely blanked and put "breeding colony". Does anyone know what the actual answer is? Heronry? I think thes...
