Re: Elastic Launched Glider C

I have a couple of questions on how to make a glider turn effectively. Assuming I understand correctly, both the stab and the rudder affect turn. On the AMA site, it describes a right-left flight pattern, where the glider makes one right turn (due to the launch) and then circles to the left for the ...

Re: Future Aviation Events

I interpreted the rule as dealing only with the bluntness. I thought as long as the edge of the fuselage is as curved as a dime, it would be valid under the rules. Does the rule mean that it has to be physically larger than a dime?

Re: Future Aviation Events

Another quick question about the dime rule-- maybe you'll be able to answer it, maybe not. I initially thought the rule referred to something 2D... as in, you would place a dime on the side of the fuselage to determine how rounded the end was (and the actual thickness of the fuselage wouldn't matter...

Re: Future Aviation Events

I'm still finding the rule regarding the radius of the fuselage and the dime to be very ambiguous. Janner14indoor mentioned previously "A flat 1/4 thick by 1/2 diameter balsa disk shall be firmly attached to the forward most point of the glider" as a suggestion for a change in the rules. If I were t...

Re: Duration

Just to get a sense of the competition, what was the breakdown of times at Nationals last year? What place do you expect a helicopter with a 2:10 (or so) time would get?

Re: Future Aviation Events

I'm a bit confused on what this trial event is looking for. Would a balsa wood and mylar glider (similar to ones seen in the past event Balloon Launch Glider) hold up under the stress of the launch? If not, is a solid balsa wood glider the best way to go?

Re: Duration

Hi everyone! Of those of you who are going to compete at Nationals, what times do you anticipate getting? If you're willing to share tips or information along with that, that would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Teams going to Nationals

Okay, so we checked with the State director to clarify about who is going to Nationals, and only one team (Churchill) is allowed to go from NorCal. Arden was trying to protest their disqualification in Battery Buggy, but they definitely aren't going to Nationals.

Re: Teams going to Nationals

I heard a rumour that Arden (2nd at nats last year) didn't make it this year? yes, it's true! I'm on Churchill's team, and we beat them at state! We've always been just a few points away from winning state, and we've actually beaten them at regionals before. This year we beat them by 18 points at s...
