Re: New York 2013
Congrats indeed, does Columbia usually win? I think I have heard that FM does really up their game by states, but either way. I'll just go and dive back into my piles of school/scioly work -_- I believe Columbia has a history of dominating there, but this is the first year FM and Spack attended thi...

Re: New York 2013
Congratulations to Columbia for winning the RCS invitational yesterday, as well as all the other teams there who helped make it a positive experience for everyone! If anyone is curious the top three places went a little like this: ~80 points - Columbia Blue 128 points - Fayetteville Green 129 points...

Re: Forestry B/C
You are allowed to write an unlimited amount in your field guides. It does not count as written notes. But in the rules under event parameter: "...up to two commercially published resources that may be annotated and tabbed (limit 3 words)" Yes, but that's if you put tabs, I thought you co...

Re: Forestry B/C
On the NYS Trees list it lists "Crataegus sp" and then Hawthorne as the common name. My field guide has 13 different hawthornes in the Crataegus family. Does that mean we have to know every hawthorne? Sp., in binomial nomenclature, means that it is an unspecified species. By that, I'd ass...

Re: Fermi Questions Marathon
If one were to collect all the rain that fell on the islands of Hawaii in an hour with a constant flux of one aluminum can height per half life of a neutron as drinking water, for how many seconds could one provide drinking water for all of humanity? This question is ridiculous. But I'll bite. Okay...

Re: Fermi Questions C
So what unit are Fermi Questions generally in? (scientific or standard) I've seen them in both. Sometimes neither. (ie: "How many iPhones would it take to cover the face of Mount Everest?") It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with everything. Remember that tests can have questions on...

Re: Fermi Questions Marathon
How many carbon atoms are in a single printed tittle in your standard newspaper headline? I don't actually do Fermi, but I'd like to give this a shot. Average length of a title in a standard newspaper headline: 5 words, each 7 letters. so 3.5E1; number carbon atoms per letter: E29?, so E30 in all.....
