Re: States sending two teams

What is the rationale for a state to give up it's spot at Nationals? I can't imagine why the OK state champs would not want to go, unless it's a funding problem or something similar.

Re: States sending two teams

So how definite are these numbers? I may be going crazy, but I could have sworn that C25-30 were moved around from the first time I saw this sheet.

Re: Designs

Hey guys, I was wondering... do you think it'd be better to have the chimney completely perpendicular to the test base? Or do you think it would be more efficient to have the chimney slightly slanted in towards the center. Orrrr, do you think it'd make a difference not worth the effort? Thanks for ...

Re: Designs

Would anyone be willing to entertain a discussion about tapered chimneys again? I have just about finished building a new tower, which I hope to test in the next few days if my schedule allows it. All of our towers have been pretty standard so far, (i.e. 1/8" base, 3/32" chimney, with 1/16...

If there is a tag, it should say what the make-up of the blanket is. Unless it is 100% cotton (which is fairly rare these days), it isn't allowed.

Re: Keep the Heat B/Thermodynamics C

Ah, this is news to me. At the invitationals my team has been to so far, they have both used the Vernier probes in the judging, and I figured from the previous discussions that other schools were using them as well. We've been testing with Vernier probes at home, but we'll try it the old fashion way...

Re: Keep the Heat B/Thermodynamics C

On the Thermodynamics Powerpoint that was in the Physics/Chemistry CD from the Science Olympiad store, it mentioned that you could plug the 1.5cm hole. However, the rule page says the hole must be open at all times. Is it true you can plug it? -catchingfire Division B Not an official clarification ...

Re: Season 2012 - Site suggestions

Thanks for the feedback starpug. I appreciate it. You brought up a really good point that I had trouble articulating in my earlier post. Just for the record, I am in full support for an event page that provides detailed and informative information about the topics that could be covered on the test. ...

Re: Keep the Heat B/Thermodynamics C

What are the most important information that you would recommend knowing for the test? ( or to put in the binder?) This isn't such a straight-forward question to answer. Really, it varies from team to team depending on your knowledge and your level of competitiveness. Ideally you should know everyt...

Aside from a stolen answer key, I don't think so. If you can print it on paper, it's fair game. Pictures, graphs, charts, Wikipedia articles, whatever. Everything is fine.
