Re: Gravity Vehicle C

This is about a specific scenario and how it relates to the rules. I realize all answers are simply opinions as they aren't posted on soinc.org, etc., etc. The rules state that "competitors must release the vehicle by using any part of an unsharpened #2 pencil, with an unused eraser... to actu...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

Oh, no, no, no... I don't use zinc plated or galvanized steel for my axles, I used raw steel(It's actually O-1 Tool Steel), I'm sorry but why would you bother using raw steel? As I know there are no downsides to using zinc plated steel (the standard stuff from home depot). Also I would think the on...

Re: MagLev C [Trial]

I got 2.8 seconds with a 100g sled which landed me with 5th place at NYC. I thought it was decent since I changed the motors and everything the night before.

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

No, that's not my issue. Even if I use any sort of loop, it will exit the dimensions before the vehicle starts its run. Could you tape a piece of string to the other end, effectively creating a tether that would at least ensure that your release mechanism isn't touch the floor? Because based on the...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

Just a suggestion, but instead of pencil why not a wooden dowel? That way you can put an eye screw at the end of the dowel, and now you have a loop that you can stick a pencil in, and pull. This is basically what I have but instead of a dowel and screw eye its a piece of wood with a hole in it, you...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

I don't have my rules on me, but IIRC the supervisor is going to provide you with the pencil you will use to activate it. It is my impression that he would be perfectly entitled to tell you to put you vehicle in launch position and step out of the box, then give you the pencil. It is also my impres...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

I just want some opinions here, but in my case, the release mechanism (the pencil) fits within the dimensions, however it will fall out of the dimensions when I pull the pencil out (the vehicle itself hasn't started moving yet). So since the pencil will be outside the dimensions technically before ...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

Rule 3f. I only have 1 axle that spans my vehicle. What do? I'll try to draw it haha. |-----------| <---- not axle --| |-- <---- 2 small wheels on | | Separate axles --|-----------|-- <---- one long axle EDIT: darn can't do lots of spaces. Just pretend there's a lot of space to make it like up nice...

I haven't put on lubricant yet. And have yet to test it on smooth low friction floor. But I doubt the transition from concrete to gym floor will make a 3m difference.
