Re: Scrambler C

Yes 8 minutes leaves little time to deal with any surprises. Practice and a checklist can help you hit all the steps. We had our Regional Saturday only two vehicles that I saw anyway, attempted to make the curve. I assume many of the Regionals have been held by now .Is anyone seeing a large showing ...

Re: MagLev C

Join the club only about half of the vehicles at our State competition were able to make a complete pass. Ours weighs very close to 2 kilos and I don't know if your lighter weight device is as sensitive to these same factors as ours but I can tell you where we found improvements. A key challenge thi...

Re: Helicopters B

Thanks I am always looking for videos or info on the different events. I don't think I described my idea very well. I think most of the teams do lots of research and videos and these forums are excellent resources. I think where the information could be most helpful is with the folks that plan and r...

Re: Helicopters B

I wasn't really wanting to condemn anyone, I believe people involved in SO at all levels have good intentions. Our State competition is held at Missouri University in Columbia and it is a pretty good size campus with more than 25,000 students. There are lots of places to fly I think this is a commun...

Re: Helicopters B

We flew Helicopters for 2 years in C division. Won State both years and were undefeated one year for the entire season so this is not sour grapes. Helicopters was the most unpleasant flying experience we have ever had. I think the rules are written in good faith and with good intentions but out here...

Re: Scrambler C

The distance is always the same this year for the timing, .2 to 8.2m as you stated. The distance to the target is selected by the ES after all devices are impounded. We used a hinged trap door with a pin to secure it in the ready position and simply tied a piece of line to it and secured the other e...

Re: MagLev C

When we were building for SumoBots we found out about "Magic Smoke" Magic Smoke is the smoke rising from your device when the soul leaves the body of your robot. In competition we witnessed several teams make magic smoke, fortunately we did not . I have heard of several teams making smoke ...

Re: MagLev C

Maybe, maybe not, they come in various sizes and ratings and there are readily available charts and other rating systems that can be referenced to select a brushless that is similar or the same as a given 180,300,400 class motor. They are often much more efficient but I don't believe that their desi...

Re: MagLev C

Bravo! I am disappointed that there isn't enough time for us to build our design but I am happy to know that some of the teams that rolled the dice will now be able to show off their devices. A general comment that is in reference to the no IC policy. I think that at some point this will need to be ...

Re: MagLev C

I agree with everything you said and we are all used to venues that are less than ideal, thanks for reminding me of flying in small classrooms with 8 ft ceilings! The question for me is what are acceptable procedures/remedies for a team to use to correct a situation where their track is on an unleve...
