Re: New Jersey 2017

I was a competitor in Helicopters this past Tuesday. Here are my thoughts. What was happening with these "stuck" helicopters was that while they were "hooked" into the rafters, they were still spinning. http://i.imgur.com/DNp9Zwx.png Regardless of their top rotor was freespinning...

I've read through this thread multiple times and there is so much terminology that I have a hard time understanding what is going on and I am not sure where to start. Could someone break down t...

Re: Wind Power B/C

Are there cheap ways to test different airfoil shapes without having to build a new wind turbine each time? And any ways to make the angles of the blade more consistent?

Re: Wind Power B/C

What are the barebones materials needed to create the motor? I have a voltmeter, wires, and a resistor. I understand how to connect everything together what pieces the CD motor is made out of if I'm making it from scratch. I have a limited budget so I want to cut out anything not required. Is this ...

Re: Pictures, Videos, and Scores

Those towers have different forces though. Those towers are meant to resist lateral tension, while our Science Olympiad towers are meant to resist downward compression. The designs of teach tower would be different.

Re: Towers B/C

Yeah the jig is so that I can build the tower upon it. It's going to be a lot easier to build multiple towers on. After all, I'm probably going to build more than one tower and it will be nice to have something to build it on. I'm not sure what your second question means, but I'm going to cut panel...

Re: Towers B/C

Balsa Man, I really like your approach to this year's jig. However, how do you make the jig last through the season? How do you prevent the plexiglas from warping, or would this not be an issue? Wouldn't the glue connecting the trapezoidal jig plates and the angle irons weaken over time, making it m...

Re: Wind Power B/C

How are you guys attaching the blades to the CD? Right now I'm using super glue and there is no chemical reaction so they're not sticking well... My blades are balsa.
