Re: Wright Stuff C

There are a number of sites on the internet that cover this. google indoor rubber powered airplane design and principles. If you can get a hold on it, Freedom flight models has good information as does J & H aero from previous years plus others.

Re: Trouble with stalling and climbing

With 2,00 turns ,you are on the back half of available power, so the plane should fly level in a slight descent. It is hard to disagree with Brian, but my experience and from some ancient literature is about 100 winds per inch of loop, or about 3,100 total winds to a point just slightly below the br...

Re: Gravity Vehicle C

WD 40 will leave a thin gummy residue after it dries unless you blow it out. Acetone is quite flammable souse it with care.. 70% rubbing alcohol is somewhat ls flammable and should work well. I like blowing the bearings dry with high pressure air after a soak in any solvent,. but that is a violation...

Call it a "stagger wing" like the ancient beach aircraft by that name.

Re: Wright Stuff C

Jeff has really good words of wisdom. This post should be mandatory reading for any student as soon as they are assigned to the WS event . While I mostly agree with his glue comments, a thinned coat of duco as a primer followed by a full strength coat is equally as strong as any super glue joint and...

Curious!! What is the rumor of why the switch from UCF to UF for the state meet. Since you are involved with UF, will you have a 1 mile hike for any event like UCF using the education Gym for 4 events.

Re: Science Olympiad Events 2019-2020

For a reasonable guess, take a look at what they are going to cover at the summer event classes in Phoenix.
It will not be perfect, but it will give you a decent idea.

Re: nationaws Room Announced

I find it hard to believe that any college that can host the National science Olympiad can not do better. It will require a major change of tactics for teams that are not getting around 4 min flights. Blind dumb luck will be a major factor.

Re: Boomilever B/C

Can not argue with actual figures, but 2 grams in 5 grams is 40%. Literature would rate this a WET balsa. 15% appears to be an accepted % for dry balsa and 5 % for dried balsa. Moisture makes the device weigh more and lowers the tensile strength, moisture is not good. It will absorb moisture from th...

Re: Sighting/Alignment

The last time that I mentored an event like this we set up an offset or aim target that would accommodate the required curve. We kept a careful log of the required turns for the wingnut brake as well as the flag offset. They started with some gross settings (distances) As there was more time, smalle...
