Re: Anybody have any tips for the lab portion of this event?

My school doesn't have very many adequate supplies (my physics classroom only has crappy wires, switches, batteries, resistors, voltmeters, ammeters, and pigeon bulbs). What's the best way to prepare for the lab portion of the event? You can go to an electronics store (I used overpriced radioshack ...

Re: Circuit Lab B/C

Inductance is as feasible as a topic as capacitance... But I think having both on the test means RLC circuits.

Re: Science Olympiad 2014-2015 Events

Liking the generalization! Although my high school's team gets hit by another graduation wave, these events are "classics" that the team used to do well with (in the past / went away right when I joined) or events that new members can pick up pretty quickly. I want to work with the team an...

Re: Most Competitive Science Olympiad Event

Yeah, Anatomy and Physiology makes a good bet because the more effort you put into it, the more directly it correlates to a better place. Why must competitions make circuits tests at the AP Physics level? Schools stop this far and get away with a medal. In circuits, you technically only have to stud...

Re: Shock Value B/Circuit Lab C Question Marathon

Since nobody has been posting questions, I will post a question that I recently encountered. Design a circuit with a light bulb and two switches such that each time a switch is changed, the state of the light bulb is changed (aka on to off or off to on). It should be energy-conservative, meaning th...

Re: How much does your school relate to your SO team?

It used to be much more involved in the past with top notch teams barely missing nationals consistently getting in the top 3 at states... The club doesn't get funding like it used to in the past, it isn't as competitive anymore, and only 1 coach compared to multiple in the past is willing to simply ...

Re: 101 ways to get kicked out of a competition

50. Take the cheap multimeters provided, set it to resistance, and measure the values of the active circuit while the supervisors are watching your technique. (lol, to be honest I think I broke a cheap one today because I didn't realize that my capacitor wasn't discharged) 51. For Chemistry lab, you...

Completely optional, just food for though...

Re: Science Olympiad, a Timesink?

As a former Science Olympian, I was quite motivated to give it more priority than my classes, SAT scores, applications to college, etc. --I wanted to make states, I wanted to get medals, I wanted to explore areas and learn a ton of wonderful and interesting topics. Most important is learning/explori...

16.) take your safety goggles off. (almost got in trouble for this one, I took them off to air them out because they fogged up) Actually happened to a team that would've gotten first place on the mousetrap vehicle before... 19. Scribbling in the last points on Experimental Design after time is over...
