Re: Entomology B/C

Does anyone actually know how to identify Nymphalidae (with just a normal picture that doesn't show you how many legs it has)?

Re: Entomology B/C

I'm pretty sure they are all going to be from the list, but I've heard stories where they've asked for a species' common name, so I just wanted to ask. And I'm having trouble telling Odonata larvae apart. Does anyone know a website that explains this?

Re: Rules

This might be slightly off topic, but how many planes should we bring to competition?

Re: Fossils B/C

And also, I was just talking to someone who got another of their field guides actually three-hole punched and put it inside their binder, so they could bring in two. Is this even legal, and where do I get a three-hole puncher that can do that?

Re: Entomology B/C

OK, thanks, SONerd. And does the dichotomous key have to refer to things we can see on the insect or things that we actually know (like the insect is red as opposed to the insect having elytra?)

Re: Entomology B/C

Are they actually going to ask us for the common name of specific insects? And, if so, are they going to be ones that we can use the Audobon guide to identify or are they just going to be random insects?

Re: Fossils B/C

I have a quick question. Are they going to ask us to identify people's representations of what a dinosaur could have looked like, or only the fossils?

Re: Disease Detectives B/C

Normally, at least in New York, the test doesn't particularly focus on one specific disease. So you can't just study ebola and be fine on the test this year. The rules (in the rule manual) say that the test will favor knowledge that is broad and vague over detailed and specific, so just know some st...

What time would be a good time (like an obvious medal) for regionals?

Re: Remote Sensing C

Are there any measuring tools that would be helpful to bring into competition that aren't mentioned in the rules? I think the triangle, ruler and protractor pretty much covers it all, but if anyone has any other items they would recommend, that would be helpful.
