Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C

Even with that definition, I would consider the class 2 lever actually a class 1 lever. It never even crossed our minds to build ours that way. Placing a counterbalance on a class 1 lever doesn't change its type but doing so with a class 2 arguably does.

Re: Bottle Rocket B

Again, I don't have the rules but 40s? At 60PSI? Just backsliding with no recovery system (chute, streamer etc)? I think that would be a world record.

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C

On another note, can we have our apparatus setup at the edge of the table so that the mass hanging down from the second class lever is hanging below the Lowest edge of the apparatus? You could also prevent it from going down that far by putting some sort of stop on the lever. We implemented ours in...

Re: Air Trajectory B/C

Hello! I'm currently using a stomp rocket as the base for my design. The tube connected to the stomp rocket is a fraction of an inch in diameter. I've tested the design with the actual rocket, and it can fire the correct distance. However, I have been unsuccessful in connecting the tube to the PVC ...

Re: Air Trajectory B/C

What is your take on the part of rule 4f which states that you have 8 minutes ...to launch a maximum of two shots at two targets. I mean lets say that a team forgot to load a ball in the launch tube prior to launch (hypothetically) or the ball failed to launch for some reason. Would that count as a ...

Re: Bottle Rocket B

My backslider bottle rocket does not go very high. What is the best way to get the rocket to go higher? Why would a rocket not go high enough? Does it go straight? If the reason its not going high is because it is flopping around in the air or swerving wildly, then you have a rocket stability probl...

Re: Air Trajectory B/C

Regarding the bucket shot, if you get closer than 500mm to either of the targets on your first attempt, you can request a bucket shot. The rules mention that "After impound THE location and size of the bucket must be announced.." which implies only one bucket/location. So does this mean th...

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C

Yes, knowing the minimum loop size works fine if your design allows you to slip the mass over the end of the beam, but some excellent designs in the way they are connected don't allow that. I am hoping the clarification comes out soon. I'm sure the job of a SOINC rule-maker is a tough one. You want...

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C

As always, this isn't the place for official comments or clarifications. However I'll note that small hangers like these are entirely within the spirit of the event and not an issue. I believe we've already responded to some similar questions privately, just haven't publicly posted a FAQ. This woul...

You shouldn't need to worry about that since the maximum weight you should see will be 800g.
