Re: Anatomy B/C
In the official training handout from soinc, under the section "Effects of Drugs on the Nervous System", caffeine is listed as suppressing melatonin, the neurotransmitter for sleep. Other sources on the internet and this textbook I have say that caffeine suppresses adenosine, the neurotran...

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
Is putting a codon chart on the notes a good idea? During one invite we were supplied with a chart, but I'm not sure if this would be repeated at other competitions. Have any of you been asked questions about amino acids requiring the chart without one being provided?

Re: Elastic Launched Glider C
I don't know if this has been covered before, but how does the effect of having dihedral only at the wing tips differ from a plane with dihedral at the center of the wings and the wing tips?

Re: Heredity B/Designer Genes C
Quick question for general designer genes knowledge. When calculating the probability of a child getting a rare recessive disease, given the genotype of the mother but not the father, do you assume the father could have the rare recessive allele if the question stated that the disease began with the...

Re: Elastic Launched Glider C
Horizontal Stab Tilt vs vertical rudder tab. Both are effective at inducing turn, problem is under what conditions and what's the drag penalty. At slow speeds, turns out the horizontal stab tilt is more effective, while at high speeds the rudder tab is more effective, but also pretty draggy. So, ty...

Re: Elastic Launched Glider C
I was wondering how effective it would be to add a piece of paper bent to a side on the vertical stabilizer to act as a rudder to generate turn instead of tilting the entire vertical stabilizer or horizontal stabilizer. I'm thinking about scaling a Simple Simon plane to make the wing length just und...

Re: Elastic Launched Glider C
I've been having this problem with a Simple Simon glider I built where the plane keeps looping backward when launched with a rubber band at a 70-80 degree angle. It glides normally with some added clay to the tip; the looping motion only happens when it is launched with a rubber band. I looked at th...
