To prevent your glider from breaking on the first launch, make sure that you throw the glider horizontally before actually launching. Our first meeting is usually in September, but most people don't get event assignments until a bit later. Some of us work on events over the summer though.

I'm not positive about this, but I think the topic changes every two years. Two years ago it was rivers and lakes, and I've heard rumors that next year the topic will be volcanic activity.

A lot of field guides have some anatomy diagrams, for sure at least the NWF book. If yours doesn't, you can find good diagrams on the entomology page on soinc.org. There are links to anatomy info and the training handout has diagrams in it.
